What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Yeah I drive at night a lot and even in regular weather my visibility is so much better now. Such a wide pattern too, after hitting a deer a couple months ago I think about animals on the sides of roads a bit more now and I think I'd have at least a little more chance to react now

 

A morning well spent at Discount Tire. New TRD Pro wheels in bronze (

$1,204 PTR20-35110-F5 x 4

PTR20-35110-F5), OEM lug nuts, OEM TPMS with new Falken Wildpeaks AT3W 265/70r17 tires (went up from 265/65r17) on the truck today. Love the slightly higher and wider stance (+4mm offset).

 

Rolled over 150k and ordered new vvt solenoids.

 

The box circled in red is my control pack. The thing circled in yellow used to reside where my control pack is. I had to fab a bracket to hold it in place but at least there’s two convenient mounting holes in this location.

only tip I have is to ensure you use the proper size wire for your winch’s maximum amperage.

Replaced my UCAs with the new ones Ironman sent out. Moog. Tomorrow I'm going to bullet line my fender flares.

 

Why? Is there some symptom alerting you to change these?

 

Funny you ask but I currently gave my last extra car to another of my daughters, 2 of 3 are now driving and the youngest is working as much as possible with a goal in mind, leaving me with no projects and no after work extracurriculars that demand attention or repairs, as I got them up to 100% before donating to the kids.

So no alerts, just have seen a few things on TW and google search links when looking up parts and systems that I decided to just drop a few bucks on new ones to give myself a winter project to keep updating my 2015 Tacoma the next year or 3 cause my youngest has been promised my Taco as her graduation present.

 

Changed out my serpentine belt on my 2006 Tacoma at 186,000 miles. Getting ready to sell?

 

i may add these to my 206k maintenance. so far i have a list of parts ready to go

PCV
V-belt - (still trying to decide if i should go ahead and replace pulleys while im at it)
Steering rack
UCA on Passenger side. Driver was replaced 3 years ago after a collision and a brand new passenger replacement been sitting in a box waiting to get installed...i've been lazy
also passenger shock absorber

maybe ill add vvt solenoids to the list since they seem like plug and play items


also question,
do you have the parts already? if so could you provide part numbers? im searching for them now, but would like to double check if you already have them in hand

which brings another question. is the oil control valve filter a good idea to change as well? its $8, just not sure how easy it is to access

If you're replacing the serpentine belt and haven't ever done the idlers at 206k I definitely would do them all. Once you pull off the belt and spin them by hand you'll probably see how much they'll free spin, and they're all easy to change. It would suck to not do them then have one come apart next year and leave you stranded

 

I do not have them yet, supposed to arrive Saturday from Rockauto. And I have not replaced those filters.
I was actually reading up on those filters and talking to my family mechanic (former Toyota tech) to see if that’s an item to replace with the solenoid replacement since they operate off the same pressures and such it seems, waiting to hear back.

 

My pest control guy has the same taco as mine 2012 just a four door. 4x4 off road and check the miles baby. Vehicle is just ignition on. No lights or anything

 

You're right, i'll order some replacements. i wonder if a NA engine will benefit any form lighter weight pulleys?

Any issues with being able to open and close the softopper after the install?

 

No because I left some slack in the wires at the pivot points so I could fold it down, idk if you can see on the right hand side in the pic. I also added a 2-pin connecter so I could remove the topper if I need to and still have the bed lights.

 

I see it now. Also, I used the same two pin connector for a third brake light I installed on the softopper.

 

Bullet liner turned out great! I'm starting to wonder if I'll eventually do the entire thing.

US Offroad winch bumper with Superwinch SX10. Mounted all without removing the front bumper— ( inspiration from another TW member.) Heavy job doing it alone. Lambtek innovations switch holder wired and mounted.

 

Went exploring in George Washington National Forest. Spitzer Lake and Flagpole Knob area. Gonna do some more tomorrow.
