CREE XHP70 (20W) LED Module - design guidance?

    I'm wondering if anyone has worked with something similar, and could give some general "best practices" for designs using these modules. I have above average electronics and manufacturing abilities, so don't spare the technical complexities. However, should I decide to proceed, I'll most likely be working with an off-the-shelf compact driver module to simply the process.

    Where I think I may run into trouble is with unknown temperatures and compatible materials, and appropriate heat sinking.

    Automotive voltage drivers are severely lacking out there, but depending on which die (forward voltage) arrangment xhp70 you go with, you may get away with an offering from taskLED.

    The h6flex driver may be right up your alley, and it tops out at 6.6A max (voltage output dependent). It will need decent heatsinking in its own right, but taskled has everything you need to calculate its cooling needs.

    What is your end goal with the LED? What use case?

    Edit- if you aren't a flashlihht nerd, check out the modding subs3ction on budgetlightforum and look for the stickied thread from user djozz, he has a ton of LED test data, showing lumen output vs drive power, so you can see your theoretical maxes, and see how much heat you need to dissipate at different input power levels.

    It's for a truck-related lighting application. Just something to satisfy my curiosity, and may end up being useful.
