Looking for people that have a 3rd gen 2.7 automatic 4wd drive. Are you happy with it? Any regrets?
    Thanks

Have you test driven a 4 and a 6. For at least a few city miles and a few hwy miles?

I have a '13 2.7 5 lug, as I don't need 4wd. Truck does all I need and more than I will ever ask. As pointed out in the other thread, it's all dependent on how you use it.

Had a '19 Tacoma 4X4 access cab 2.7L AT SR5 as a loaner for several months while the frame on my '10 Taco was replaced; that 3rd gen experience completely sold me on these new Taco's (3rd gen) so I finally bought one, should be delivered within 2 weeks. '23 Tacoma SR5 V6 AT SB DC 4X4 MGM SX.

Completely happy. Best decision ever! Especially when I paid only $23k out the door in '17.

Edit: Oops -missed the AT specification. Mine is an MT.

As others have already said, it's all about what you need or want a truck for. I love mine, no regrets with the engine, but its not for everyone.

I live in the dead flat midwest, drives perfect out here. That said, if I lived anywhere with mountains, no chance would I own one. It does okay, but you really have to wind out the engine at times just to maintain the speed limit.

Think about towing too. I haul much more than I tow, and when I do tow it's usually something light, 2,000 pounds-ish. It does very well with that. If you're often pulling something heavy, not a chance in hell I'd get a 2.7. Trucks only rated to pull 3,500 pounds. Now, I've had 4,000-4,500 pounds behind me a few times and it did well, but the truck clearly was *not* designed for it and it just isn't something I'd feel good about doing long term.

to be fair, life is also paved by plenty of flat squirrels that made a decision too late or too early!

To add to my previous post on the 2.7L, my '10 is a 4x4 2.7L MT RC base model all stock, and I truly love that 4-cylinder 2.7L engine (hopefully trading it in next week). Seems like the 2.7L is perfectly mated to a Tacoma-sized truck, I've driven that engine with both MT & AT, the AT is really nice! 2.7L was my first choice for my new '23, however I got into the new truck search too late to get a 3rd gen 2.7L the way I wanted it; had to 'settle' for a DC and V6.
