Im on a road trip now, and with my yak on the roof @65 its returning 21 MPG. If speed increases I can see 17/18 at anything over 70. At 65 in the rolling hills of northern Ga Im locking it in 5th. Then most often it holds the gear, worst case it drops just one on CC. If Im footing the pedal I can force/trick it to hold 5th most often.
Im happy with 5.29, I will try lighter tires eventually, or maybe go down a size. I had wanted 235/85-16 but at the time there was no availability date with the BS global shortages. These BFG ATs in 265 are like 53/54 lbs. The plus side is they wear like iron.

I believe Navin has no tune, i have a tune, header, intake manifold spacer, and a light weight wheel tire combo which is key. I would suggest a tune 100% and try and keep the wheel/tire combo light. I as well am going to go with 235/85/16's over the 265/75/16's i have now when they wear out since it will help even more. His tires alone are 53/54 lbs my same size AT and wheel combo combined is only 58lbs. Navin has about 20lbs + per corner of rolling weight than me in the same size tire that will be felt. I am in NC its hilly here as well going 70-75 i would average 21-22 mpg on the highway and i am 4WD where Navin is 2WD. I also have a midrise shell and a small lift, between the weight of the shell, stuff in the bed, front skid plate, hitch, tires, etc i would suspect i am 6-800lbs over stock. All the mods helped for sure but i would say tune and regear were the most impactful. Get a tune, regear and keep the rolling resistance down and it will turn into a new truck. Its amazing for a little 4 banger how peppy it truly is with my combo couldn't be happier.

This is not my picture but a 265/75/16 vs 235/85/16, you can clearly see how the 235 can be a benefit

Least it sounds like there is hope. Lot of people running the bfgs. Are they that much better on fuel.

Correct, no tune yet. But on a stretch of highway in Ga I got stuck in 4th using CC at 45 MPH. Thats with the kayak on top, moto in the bed. If we werent pushing so much air from this oversized body I think these would be the numbers @60. At 55 it drops to about 24 locked in fifth. 65/5th gear its 20-22. Lol.

Got tuned in Fla today, I shoulda done it sooner. Transmission shifts correctly, the truck just runs as it should now. Theres a front end lift on a just touch of throttle, it revs our cleaner, cruises stronger up the little rises we have here. 110% satisfied.

Pre tune this morning it shifted up a gear at 2000 RPM TO 1600 getting to highway speed up a slight hill from a red light, WTF.

@RCTuningFL was spot on, the 2.7 6 speed auto responded to the top most aggressive pedal positions, the most being on the ECT button which I will play with tomorrow while towing a small uhaul 4 hours for a friend. Im already convinced I wont need the ECT activated with that as the new base tune is perfectly strong and responsive.

It's not a 6/8 cyl, but it runs like it should now and the extra few ft/lbs are obvious right away, and whoa, watch out in Reverse! Hahaha. Thats going to be an adjustment for me into my driveway.

Told you tune makes a big difference what did you go with OTT or KD and what setting ive tried both back and forth i settled with OTT and gear lock instead of ECT. KD was great too more aggressive with the throttle inputs but i liked the shifting better on OTT. Gear Lock takes place of ECT, the way its activated is S mode and ECT on it will lock the gear your in on S mode no matter what throttle input and prevent a downshift. I never liked or used ECT so Gear Lock was a better choice for me. I wouldnt want to lug it too bad at low rpms but nice for highway on a big grade or towing.

OTT, ECT is my "extra spicey" option, I noticed it holds the gears out to higher RPM, not sure I will need that but its there. Im glad I didn't err to the milder side with the 4 cylinder.

Yeah thats why im not a fan of ECT if i want to run the gears out i can just use S mode, I bet with towing gear lock would be a great feature for you instead of ECT. If you have extra spicy ECT you prob have Spicy base. The 4cyl even regeared needs the more aggressive throttle over the 3.5, i have a vf cable so i flash my own truck i have tried all of the settings lite, mild, medium, spicy. I like medium the most but i go back and forth between that and spicy

Ive literally got about one hour on it driving home and the onboard computer was within about +1/2-1 MPG. I will give a report after a clean tank of gas, Im towing about 4 hours today so it will not be useful info, unless its better than when its unladen! Hahaha.

I bet it might be useful, if I get back to the tune I will strongly consider that option.

MPG update, towing a little box trailer at 65 it returned 17 MPG, (I expected about 15), but more important, there was no drag on the drivetrain from the #2000. Couldnt feel it in the gas pedal. Sweet.

Unloaded it came back at 70 MPH-20/21 MPG, so pretty much the same but I will report back if it changes. The tune makes her drive like it should, its not a 6/8 cyl, but its not artifically restricted now so it actually moves and has a nice pop from a start. Staying ahead of traffic from a light is no longer a 5k RPM affair with the foot to the floor.

Nice I knew a tune would make the difference for you, I notice slightly better mileage maybe 1/2 nothing to write home about just a better driving experience

Yeah been 19-21 on the highway with winter blend fuel, my around town is 15-18 depending on how far. Quick 3-4 mile drives from dead cold shows 15. 10+ min drives are 17-18. Seems about the same from what i was getting last winter with the stock gears. I am changing to a cab height cap over my midrise, and changing tires from 265/75/16 to 235/85/16 so i expect my town and highway to go up a smidge. Such a big driving improvement overstock, if i did it again i might go 5.71's
