My feelings after we bought our Tacoma exactly. Was ready to take it back and get another Tundra. After reading up on it and watching numerous videos I rolled the dice and had the OTT tune done the second week we owned it. 10 months later, it’s still the best money I’ve spent on it. You’ll be shocked at how much better it runs at all speeds and in all conditions.

I'm currently running the tune now. Overall I like it, but there's some things that need to get tweaked still. I find myself getting aggravated having to press the pedal halfway to the floor to get it to drop down a gear in low RPMs. Other than that, and the occasional hard shift into 4th, the tune has been great. Throttle response is nice and the extra power/torque is noticeable.

Understood. Their tuners are experts at tweaking things to a Goldilocks result. AFAIK, there's still no charge to do that or for updates. Gotta love a company like that! :101010:

That was one of the few things I really didn't like about my first Toy, especially when towing or as you said, just puttering around town.

I had my local OTT tuner install a medium/spicy tune and love it, especially for towing. It really solves the trans shifting/gear hunting and at which point the trans actually shifts.
I no longer have to put it in S3/S4 when towing. Worth every dollar.

I appreciate the responses but I think people are misunderstanding what I'm saying. I already have the OTT tune now, and the bogging down in low RPMs is actually worse than it was before. I think highway driving is where this really shines, but low speed around town is annoying. It's continually trying to go through the gears instead of holding in 3rd longer, but then when the RPMs get too low, I have to push the pedal halfway down before it finally wants to downshift. When driving around town in S4, the shifting is perfect for my liking until I get up to speed at which time I have to move over to D to get 5th gear.

    Ah, Ok.
That is very unusual it seems. The lack of throttle response around town on OEM was the main noticable thing that the OTT tune fixed.

If I were you, I'd go back to my OTT tuner and get with them for an update or a tweek to the tune you currently have.

I have a tune scheduled for Saturday in St. John's, Newfoundland. My truck is a daily driver, stock except for the truck cap and AT tires. I often use my truck for my tiling and cement work so I often haul around a bed load of tools but no real amount of weight. I hunt and fish and often tow an ATV trailer with one or 2 Honda Foremans on it. And hopefully a moose once a year. Again, nothing the truck can't handle.

Tuning is new to me but my main reason for getting the tune is to make the truck drive better. I hate that the transmission goes through the gears so quick and into high gear before it should IMO. I understand the tune doesn't help much with the torque converter shudder which is the only thing I don't like about the Tacoma. I actually had a 23 ordered and turned it down after the test drive. The transmission was the same as my 2018 so didn't see the sense getting a new truck with the same transmission issue.

Few questions for those that are tuned.

I don't mind the throttle response so I'm thinking the lite throttle response is fine?

Is the OTT the preferred tune? Not even sure if the original OVtune2.0 is even an option.

Also wondering about the ECT Mode Switch to lockout the double overdrive 6th gear when towing or hauling. Is that a feature folks like? Travel to my cabin / hunting area takes me along a coastal highway with lots of hills. I find I'm often in S3 or S4 when towing on that route.

    Anything else I should consider?

    Thanks in advance.

Yea I'm going to get up with him soon, probably after the holidays. He's only an hour away from me.

Just got tuned yesterday and went with the mild/spicy settings. Still getting used to the throttle with low speed driving but this made a very noticeable difference all throughout the rev range. The truck gets up to speed much easier and holds gears much better at freeway speeds.

This has been a bottom of the list mod for me for awhile now, just never thought I actually needed it. I can say if you're on the fence, just go for it. Driving is much more enjoyable, should have gotten this done much sooner.

Initially, I had to tone down my V7 back in May 2022 because the throttle was too touchy.

But, now I've found the sweet spot with Mild Drive/Spicy ECT. Friggin' Love it!!!

I have an OTT tune as well, and was under the impression the settings were mild/medium, medium/spicy or spicy/spicy?

I went with medium/ ECT Spicy, is there a mild/spicy option I missed?

    The throttle choices are (D/ECT):
    Lite/Mild
    Mild/Medium
    Medium/Spicy
    Spicy/Super Spicy

Some other options exist if needed, but above are the “standard” options.

Throttle choice doesn’t change HP or TQ, so the Lite Throttle makes the same power as Super Spicy. MOAR Throttle ≠ MOAR Power.
