FUEL TANKS

My 2000 sr5 has got a lose fuel tank filler neck. Would that cause the engine performance to run rough?

 

Which end if the fill tube is loose? At the tank or where it comes out of the fender?

 

It seems like both ends. I can open filler door, grab filler neck and pull up and down maybe 1 half inch. Shouldn't it be sealed to hold some type of pressure?

If it's loose, you definitely are going to have check engine light.

Stop by auto zone and have them scan the truck. I bet you have a fuel/emissions type code showing up.

It can be loose at the fill door and move that much without being loose at the tank. Being loose at the fill door alone will not cause any problems.

It's not "mounted" at the fill door. It literally just sits in the opening. There is an accordion type part of the fill tube down near the tank to allow for movement. It's going to have play at the fill door... That's by design.
