2003 Tacoma ping sound in reverse

I have the same noise and I got my ujoints dand carrier bearing new and it still pings

 

for $500 I would just deal with the ping haha. Mine doesn't do it anymore now that the moly grease has worked it's way in there.

 

Some people think it might be the output shaft on the t-case. There's an old thread on TTORA about it. You really need to get under there and wiggle it back and forth and see where exactly the noise is coming from.

 

Haha, Mine shaft is done, tooo many miles, 570,000, Cardin joint is worn out with a ujoint cap coming out, slip joint worn out with clicking noises, rear ujoint has 1/8” play in it and truck has vibration at 40 mph, so shaft might be out of balance too.

100 percent happy with the new driveshaft, yes.
And you can replaced the Cardin ujoints if they go out unlike the OEM shafts.
The shafts are balanced at 3500 rpms

Getting the drive shaft nuts off we’re a royal pain for me.
The rears were ok, the fronts I had to cut off,

 

I got the spicer setup as well, but I didn't order it I had a driveline shop cut my old one off and weld the spicer kit on to it. Cost me around $385 if I recall.

I was told by the driveline shop only 3-4 pumps max on the center zerk fitting on that joint. There is a weep hole that is supposed to let some grease out when it gets hot and expands, BUT when you start pumping grease in to it it cannot keep up with the amount that comes out each pump and you have the potential of popping the seal out of the joint and having to rebuild the joint to replace the seal. If you are going to pump grease in to the center joint they said to do it slowly so that you didn't shock it and pop the seal.

That’s a good price, my slip yoke was shot and I have the Cardin joint, some tacoma don’t.
I wanted everything new has I have too many miles on the shaft with the addition supercharger power

 

I’ve been wondering what that sound was for months.
