The plane had an engine failure and didn’t have a glide profile to make it to the airport. Pilot picked the best place he had to put it down.

Alright hive mind of shop fanatics. I've got a predicament going, and I need some advice. I've got 30-40 1" thick mild steel blocks with a 1" hole cut in them. It was supposed to be 1 1/8". With only a drill press at my disposal, what would be the best tool/method to remove that 1/8" of material, while still being cost effective?

My initial thought was to cram a 1 1/8" drill bit down there, but I figured I'll be chewing those up left right and center trying to do that many. I figure a reamer that size will be quite pricey, and I'm not confident a drill press would be my best move with that.

I don't know the answer, but that job is gonna suck.

I'd hire it out to someone who has a mill.

Seems like engine cut out. Flight instructor and student, instructor crashed on I-26.
Best part is airport is right there 2 road miles from crash site.

Good morning shop crew. It’s Friday :woot:

How much rain are they saying for you Jeff? Our rain chance and amount has bounced all over the place for the past week. Yesterday my shoulder and elbow started aching so it needs to get it over with and rain or move on.

So that's why my shoulder started hurting last night.

Just checked our weather for here in northern South Carolina and that low pressure is to move up the coast.

Oops… Good morning , we made it to SATURDAY :woot: where the hell did my Friday go??

Yep, it’s headed your way sounds like it will be a pretty good storm as it moves up the east coast.

I have a distinct temperature/falling barometric pressure threshold where my shoulder starts to get that dull ache. A few degrees colder and the elbow joins in on the fun. We hit that combo last night about 6 o’clock

    I really hope
    Good to see you here

Running slow with lots of lube good drill bit should work fine

How critical is the 1 1/8 diameter hole

Did the plane pancake or make a decent dead stick landing?

It's pretty important that the hole is 1 1/8, it's going over a clevis pin on the end of a cylinder to connect to a truck frame mount. The problem is that when these custom frame mounts had that 1" steel block welded on, somebody didn't take care to make sure they were welded square on. The pin is 1" so I don't have any give at all to account for the alignment issue.
