On a similar note, my deer decoy works for buzzards when it's laying down...

Yeah, looks like we may have a tripod running around here. Wound up finding 4 pieces of leg Bone, but the one I posted here was the biggest

Well dang. Reason I asked was maybe check eye relief on scope for her. Shoulder gun and ask if she is seeing full field of view instead of small circle. Went through same experience with my son that age and a couple low shots. Doesn’t show up on shooting bench so much where you help get them all set.

Well, I wouldn't call today a total dud. Cole did make it and he saw the first deer around 9:30 in the thick clearcut to our south (same woods where I hit the buck with my crossbow earlier in November). He only saw a glimpse twice as it walked past since the ground blind which is about 50 yards from the cut compared to my archery spot witch is about 5 yards away. Likely walking the same trail the buck did.

About 10 AM I see white about 75 yards out in a different direction. Got my binos up and told Cole to get his gun ready and not to worry about his binos. Had a decent sized tree between me and the deer, plus it looked like it might be in a shallow ravine. A bit later Cole said he could see a doe looking at him, I thought I saw the same, along with the ass end of a second deer - but still behind that tree!! Looked like the doe might have bedded down. Anyhow about noon, Cole wanted to check out the possible deer while I walked a different area. Sure enough, as he got closer, 2 of them jumped up and ran straight away. On property we can't hunt.

So, he saw 3 and I saw 2 and we called it a day. While talking to the in-laws, I noticed the new neighbor (who bought the clearcut) with his dog near his woods. I went out to meet him and got his permission to trail any wounded deer on his property (Ohio law says that is a must). He hunts also, so I didn't ask to hunt his property, but the ability to recover a deer was great. We exchanged phone numbers and I wished him luck for his evening hunt.

Also had a flock of about 25-30 turkeys fly down in easy view (spooked 1 off the roost earlier as I got to the blind in the dark) for us to watch.

Tomorrows forecast: 96% chance of rain from 5AM-9PM!!!!

Unless that changes alot, I am done till muzzleloader. Cole also said he would like to try that too.

It's possible, it wasn't a terribly long shot but it was across an old pond so there is a little debris in the way, and she had to shoot off the back of the stand because they came out behind us. I just can't believe after seeing it kick and finding as much blood as we did, it wasn't a fatal shot. Screenshot_20231216-180558.png

Well, the weatherman got it right today. Got up @ 4:30 or so to use the facilities.....no rain!!! Laid back down till about 5:15 and looked out the front window - RAIN. Been almost non-stop all day like predicted. Cleaned/oiled my pistol and put it in the safe. Put all my hunting clothes away except what needs laundered this week. Emptied my hydration pack. Done for this calendar year. January 6th is next time out - flintlock for muzzleloader season.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU DEER HUNTERS (AND ANY OTHERS ON THIS THREAD) AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I remember his pic with the Ohio buck from last year - I asked where he got it. Unless he is going to bow hunt, muzzleloader is the only "gun" season left - January 4-7, 2024. Bow goes until February 4th I think.
