Any woodworkers?

While I do love my Festool stuff, that one definitely is a bridge too far for my budget. The Makita tools I’ve had were also most excellent, but yeah, I just checked prices for that one too, woah.
If I was using it a ton, I’d consider it, but I’m a mere hobbyist. I really only need it so I can frame the new windows I just had installed.

 

Yeah I found myself in this scenario recently and found the DeWalt most fitting. Curious to hear what others suggest too

 

How is the dust collection?

 

I’ve never tried to make it work well but I historically think all miter saws are fairly bad at dust collection. I’m not set up in a permanent shop and so I just use the supplied bag and make a mess everywhere. I do plan to setup some semi-permanent dust collection when I build a formal miter station in a future shop.

 

I have a Bosch 12”. I like the fact that I can have it up against the wall. It is hooked up to a shop vac using a remote switch. Dust collection is decent using an adapter from Shop Nation. I find that lately I only use it the break down rough lumber and cut all of my angles using a sled on my table saw.

 

Ls1219l I think it's about $800 now. Worth every penny I paid.

 

Next question... What is a good blade to use on maple trim? Home Depot seems to have 12" table saw blades, are those ok with Miter saws? Back in the day, radial arm saws needed a different kind of blade. Not sure if miter saws have the same issues.
H/D has both the 80 tooth and 100 tooth 12” blade. Is the 100 tooth worth buying over the 80?

 

I like the Freud Diablo blades. I think the last one I purchased was a 96 tooth. Cut quality was excellent as well as the durability, stayed sharp for a long time.

 

Also I use the Diablo blades in everything now, even in my circ saws, can't beat em for the cost. Table saw blades are $40 to $50 bucks, a fine tooth miter saw blade is about a $100. If you want good cuts buy good blades, it's that simple. When the blade that came with my new miter saw wears out it'll get a Diablo fine tooth.
Now that I have a more powerful table saw I run full kerf blades. They are thicker and more stable. In my old underpowered contractor saw I ran thin kerf blades and they worked well.

Thanks guys! Home Depot had the saw and the Diablo 80 tooth. I’m thinking that ought to work well for my current needs. Now to find the wood and try to find a stain that matches the new windows.

 

Well my friend came over today and helped me get the new planer down to the shop.
It makes my old dewalt 735 look like a kids toy and that is a really good planer. My friend purchased it and took it home with him.

This is where it will be stored.

I still have to drill some holes to bolt it to the cart. I need to instal the dust chute. But I'm done for today. I'll let it warm up in the shop and tomorrow I'll clean the cozmoline off the table.

 

Put an Ogee edge on and sanded the frames from the other day.



Started a dog feeder stand.




And scroll sawed a couple of ornaments while waiting for glue to dry. Germany for my sister who went there this year and two Irelands.

 

A neighbor was cleaning out his garage and brought this wood over, 4 pieces in total, 1 inch thick. He didn't know what it is, neither do I. Anyone recognize it?

Yeah, now that I have the Dewalt and how freaking huge it is, I appreciate what you have!

on a side note, what does everyone consider to be acceptably accurate? My initial training was with a retired master Machinist. I can see light at one end of the square… it’s probably only 3-4 mil after 3 inches, but his influence lingers…
