Depending on what you’re looking for I’ve got an old shimano 10 speed drivetrain (I think SLX derailleur) and No name shimano brakes. I can pull the parts out if you are interested

No, $100 on marketplace. If you’re keeping it I’d hope the friend is giving it to you. For people invested in MTB you’ll never be happy with it as an MTB.

You could rigid fork it and make it a gravel or commuter bike.

I would not pay that much because if you break anything or rebuild the fork/shock/brakes you could never recoup $$$ if you sold.

I learned in my first design engineering job to always model tool clearance before finishing off a part design. This was pre-CAD and we had little “paper doll” wrenches to test things on the drawing board. Nowadays with modern ball-end hex keys this particular example may not be a complete show stopper, though far from ideal to get a consistent torque … not to mention on the trail with a multitool.

Fortunately, I was disassembling this in my basement with all my tools. I ended up using a ball end hex, but as you pointed out, I do not have one of those on my multitool…

anyways, here she is, ready for action!
    IMG_3151.jpg
she now has Nobl rims and I9 Hydra hubs, WAO Da Bar, Cane Creek 70 series headset, PNW grips and pedals, Spank saddle, XT brakes, Ride Wrap and new graphics for the suspension. I need a different adapter for the front brake and need to bleed the rear.

Haha, no, I did! It was the standard comp build but i wanted the DVO suspension and had the other parts on hand. The Stumpjumper will be selling to fund the swap. Some of the parts it came with were decent enough, but i'm figuring out what i like at this point.

I called DVO, that company is great. I explained what I went through and his first question was 'How long was that thing sitting in a dealer's floor?'. I had some suspicion that this was a new/old stock bike, that sort of confirms it. He gave me some guidance on setting up the shock which was really helpful. In short though, he thinks it'll be fine, grip and rip (or grip and pucker)!

    You won't like those levers.
I have some for a front for sale with an extra lever and pads.
    These are the HC Levers.
