Two months ago I bought a one-owner '06 Tundra but it is just too much for me (wife, child and I) and I'd like something smaller. I've always liked the Tacoma so I've decided to purchase one and evaluate it side by side and eventually keep one and sell the other.

Please help me evaluate these three candidates. All of these are DoubleCab and all the frames are in good or excellent condition according to the ads.

    2015 SR5 - 203k miles - $16,200
    2014 TRD Sport PreRunner - 158,700 - $16,500
    2015 TRD Sport - 49,500 - $27,500

I never off-road and I don't drive in the snow so I'm perfectly fine with NOT having 4x4. Here are the hyperlinks

For me it’s a no brainer. I’m buying the 15 w/ 49k miles as long as it’s checks out. I’d ask the owner to meet at dealer or well qualified mechanic to have completely checked. It’s always worth the money spent to have it looked at.

I'd get the 14 prerunner. Looks clean and has some extras put on it like the old owner took good care. If you never need 4x4, prerunner will save on maintenance and weight.

The Tacoma cab is not large. Many regret the size when they have children.

Just remember that before you downsize to a Taco.

Thanks Just_A_Guy, I've been struggling with this decision for quite some time. I love the bulletproof reliability and the tank-like feeling of the Tundra cabin but it drives slow and feels like a dump truck. This coming from a guy used to driving Highlanders (5 so far) Camrys and other sedans. These are my first steps into Truck Life so I may very well be misunderstanding them. Jury's out.

I'm also keeping my Highlander as the family car. The pickup truck is for my runs to Home Depot and to take the bikes to the trail.

Look at each one's frame if possible and inspect for rust. If the one with 49k is within budget and has a good frame I'd get it. 4x4 us great to have even if you never see yourself needing it and you do live in NY after all.
