Has anyone or does anyone run RIPPS coil packs and an OTT tune simultaneously with a CAI by chance. I was told by a tuner they won’t tune trucks that have these on. Any help greatly appreciated.

Yes I did. Took coils off put back on stock coils got rid of KN intake went with TRD true CAI; put OTT on and much better. RIPPS and aftermarket CAI is straight up snake oil.

The only info I know is a aftermarket tuner had their truck turbo, charged or whatever, and the tuner said that the coils OEM were absolutely overpowered, and to never upgrade them because they could handle all that that’s what I read I don’t know. Voice to text hope I sounded decent *

Agree CAI and RIPPS are worthless.

Totally disagree about CAI’s being worthless. I run Injens Evolution intake and although I installed it before my tune I did notice a difference immediately. Also, intake air temps are significantly better than stock. Injen is also the only company that provides technical data and a dyno for their intake. They make great intakes for many vehicles.

More power to you,Sir. I disagree. And that is my opinion with experience with them. Closed CAI that pull air from outside the engine bay are true cold intakes and work much better than those KN or Injen open filters with heat shields. No Go.

I have logs that show otherwise. I’m not making this up. I don’t have a dyno but I do know for a fact that stock IAT’s were 8 - 12 degrees higher vs the Injen intake. I see as little as 1 degree over ambient on the Injen intake at highway speeds. Injen pulls air from two places. The fender and above the radiator.

I appreciate your response and experience I just don’t care for these parts bc they don’t perform for the money; I like to put my money in parts that make more of a difference. I did like the sound the KN intake made but it wasn’t changing the power that I could tell at all.

On NA engines you don’t tend to gain much anyway. Though IAT’s help with timing and the more advance the better. It also sounds great. Is it worth $350, I guess that depends on the user.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
In general, you do not want to use a KN type filter on a vehicle with a MAF. The grease from the filter is not good for them.

For 2nd gen trucks the original AFe with the Dry filter gives the best results, according to experienced tuners. This is also the original TRD intake. Like the other offerings, they pull air from the fender like the factory version.

The factory intake is technically a CAI. But with less surface area of the filter, a not so straight through design, and additional tuning/dampening of the sound as compared to the AFe and similar.
I would not bother with any intake mods unless getting a specific tune. The real benefits are when adding forced induction. But then you are going to open up the exhaust side as well.
For the Heat shielding aspect, I believe the type of plastics being used help account for that.

And yes, the RIPPS are not worth while and have shown reliability issues.
Gadget at URD discovered long ago that the OEM Toyota coil packs are more than adequate.

I remember seeing these being promoted on YouTube when I first got my truck. Glad I didn't fall for these things.
