2012 Tacoma (late gen 2), new bumper with PIAA led lights in it. The truck is a basic model but appears to have the fog light wiring harness installed. Lights were plugged in to existing plugs. Under the hood, the fog light relay is in the small relay box to the right of the main one (on driver side). I installed a new relay. Then in the cab, wired in the ground port, then installed an add-a-circuit connector for 12v. For the relay circuit, there is a 4 pin plug that is probably for an OEM fog light switch. The switch I have is one of those aftermarket ones with the plug that looks like it could handle 8-10 wires but uses 4 wires. The blue wire on the installed plug is supposed to be the wire for the activating the relay. So those are the wires used to set up the switch. Power is connected to the white and green wire on the aftermarket plug. Ground is connected to the black wire on the plug, and the red wire on the aftermarket plug connects to the blue wire to activate the relay.
It does work, but not the way I want it to work. When the power is on and no lights are on, the fog lights can be turned on. When the power is on and the HIGH BEAM LIGHTS are on, the fog lights work. When the power is on and the LOW BEAM LIGHTS are on, the fog lights DO NOT work. The most important mode for fog light use won't work and nothing I've tried has done anything, except for burning out a 5 amp fuse.

Fog lights work when power is on and no lights are on. Fog lights work when power is on and HIGH BEAM lights are on. Fog Lights DO NOT WORK when LOW BEAM is on.

How do I get the fog lights to work with the low beam lights on?

sounds like it was rewired for Aux Driving lights
you need to get a copy of the wiring diagram and compare what is there vs what is on the diagram to see how it was done

Wouldn't standard driving lights automatically turn on whenever the vehicle is turned on and the lights are off, that's how normal DRL's usually work. The problem here is the fog lights don't turn on when low beams are on, which should be their normal method of wiring.

What I want is for the fog lights to only be able to be turned on when the key is on, then usable used when headlights are off, low beams, or high beams.

Pretty sure it is NOT wired for AUX driving lights. I had ordered an OEM fog light switch, one which actually plugs into the factory wiring harness plug. When the OEM switch is connected (and the aftermarket switch is disconnected), the fog lights work perfectly when the ignition is on and the lights are in low beam. That is the factory standard for this year, AFAIK.

With the OEM switch removed and the aftermarket switch wired in, the fog lights work perfectly when the ignition is on and in parking lights mode, no lights, or HIGH BEAMS, but NOT with LOW BEAMS.

I think it's time for a "FixAll" - taking truck to an offroad mechanic nearby, as I've wasted roughly 20+ hours trying to figure this out without burning the entire system up...
