Alright, so I'm at 307k with a new engine, catalytic convertor, radiator, etc. a this point, but the transmission has never been serviced and the original fluid is still in there. I can tell it's not shifting gears as great as it used to and just waiting for it to start slipping soon. I've heard all about this Lucas transmission additive and that it does wonders for folks. Should I give it a shot? What is everyone's opinion?

I would have it serviced first to see if that is necessary to try.

Well I took it to the shop and they told me that he didn't want to flush it because he was worried about it being the end due to state of the fluid, but never said anything about trying an additive and now the guy doesn't work there anymore lol

I would do a simple drain and fill. Then run it for a couple hundred miles and do it again. Do a third one or a fourth one if necessary. Keep doing it until the fluid starts coming out a light clear red color. When I do a drain and fill on mine, about 4 quarts comes out.

@Digiratus Well I don't want to do that because I don't think the fluid has ever even been serviced before and I watched a lot of vid's saying that you could kill your transmission with new fluid in it after all that wear, because the fluid needs the metallic shavings to keep it from not slipping. I'm not sure how accurate that is but I'm worried myself after the mechanic says the same thing.

That might be true with a flush with an old system. But what I'm proposing is not a flush, it's a drain and fill. It's a gradual change in the fluids.

An a340f trans holds about 10 quarts of fluid IIRC.

A drain/refill may still cause slipping if the fluid is contaminated enough. In this case I think the best course is to take a fluid sample and get it analyzed. Ask the tech/vendor for their recommendation on how best to proceed. Blackstone is a popular tribology company.
