I feel its time to address a known issue in the Tacoma world. Selling factory parts off of your toyota for a ridiculous price. Factory head units especially piss me off, you bought a nice head unit to upgrade the truck and your old one isnt worth DIRT period. As a community of like minded Tacoma people we should be hooking each other up with good deals why? Because you were literally going to throw that part in your garage to collect dust and now a fellow tacoma member is actually interested in paying you cash for garbage and you want to screw them over to pay for your new part. This selfish crap should end we all love working on cars and trucks its called a community for a reason stop screwing people over. Please let me know if you agree. This also goes for suspension and other parts. Mainly factory parts.

I agree, a used factory radio for $500-800 is a bit much. You are basically recouping 80-90% of your aftermarket unit. I would love to upgrade to one with CarPlay and keep the factory look. But by the time I spend $700 plus shipping and the $200 harness to make it work. I could just get an aftermarket one.

I have passed on several take offs for the cost of shipping. Not that I'd want someone to give away a radio. But let's help out the community. But you can ask whatever price you want. And I and many others will keep looking.

If had Toyota widget I really didn't need and a guy down the street really really needed it, yeah I'm going to give him a break. If I'm selling something on ebay, yeah I'm going to get every penny as possible. Who here hasn't over payed for something because we really either needed it or wanted it?
In the end, as always, something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

There is nothing wrong with the market place, you see an item, you offer what you think is fair to you and if the seller does not agree then you keep walking. There are a lot of items in the marketplace that go unsold due to their prices or just simply supply and demand. It seems to me that you just want a head unit, and you want it cheap.

Yeah… I agree. People on here and on eBay were asking so much I just decided to go aftermarket for much cheaper.

Before anyone whines that people can list their stuff for whatever they want, I’m well aware.

When I upgrade mine (someday? if ever) I'll give you mine if the old lady doesn't throw it in the garbage quite literally the minute I remove it.

Hey, I've got some front oem Off Road Bilstein's for sale. It'll be cheaper than new, but shipping will be $1,000

They are sitting in my garage collecting dust

    Interested?

We do that though, people trade stuff here all the time. Factory stuff is of course expensive, because it is good quality.

But do these stock radios actually sell for a high price? Back in 1996 my now ex father in law put his tan 2 wheel drive 1987 F150 XLT regular cab up for sale. He was all about how much that truck was worth. He would quip; "That truck is worth good money." I would point out how anyone who can write a check for that much money is not in the market for a 1987 F150. Last I drove by there it was still sitting there next to the highway for sale. I bet a lot of these valuable stock radios "that are worth good money" end up on garage shelves.

News flash: Everything is expensive. Food. Real estate. Cars. A whopper with cheese meal is over 15 dollars. It's not over yet, they say inflation is slowing but I don't see it.

People keep buying so the prices remain high.

just a quick view at 3rd gen marketplace and I see several head units VERY reasonably priced at $100-$200. What are you expecting, to buy for $40?

TacomaWorld is a good community. I recently bought a used set of fog lights for my 2nd gen from a member for only 25% of oem cost. Yes I could have bought new aftermarket fogs for about the same price, but I know OEM is quality.

That’s less than 5-10% of new, I’m starting to wonder if OP thinks anything over free-dollars shipped is stupid price

IMHO Most folks need to recoup some money on a big purchase. We simply cannot afford to just give away our old parts. That factors into the purchase of something new. I don't see how you can be angry at someone selling something for whatever they can get for it. The price of parts is always set by how much folks are willing to pay. I have offered things up for free at times but cannot always do that. Let folks handle their used parts as they see fit. :)
