Me too. Uses around a third of a gallon/hr when idling. So, 9 gallons/.3 =27 hours lol.

I’m trying to wrap my head around letting it go to 6 miles ‘til empty. To each their own, but I’m just not getting that close to the canyon’s edge… even after reading here that it’s probably closer to 35 - 40 miles.

I lived the first 55 years of my life in remote WV. Didn't worry a bit. Only time i filled up early was when expecting a foot or more snow. Not really for driving worry, more to have a secondary place for heat when the power went out. Had a generator for primary backup, vehicle was secondary backup. We lost power several times a winter.

When mine gets down under "100 miles to empty" it changes over to hyper drive or something. I could maybe go 40 miles until it goes down to what I would guess to be 0. First time I noticed it, I was on a long trip with my wife and she was sleeping, as usual, I figured I would let her rest since I has a little over 100 miles to empty, according to the calculator. Anyway, next town was only about 30 miles down the road. Well we were in the mountains, so that didn't help. I pulled into the first station along the way with 12 "miles to empty." If I have 100 miles or more to drive I make sure I have over 1/2 tank of gas in the truck.

Isn't that why it's called, "estimated"?

I had a trip a few weeks ago, my wife and I stopped in the Aberdeen, MD area for dinner and fuel and then drove back to the Manchester, NH area with just a single bio-break in Connecticut. I'd been watching the DTE calculation and was sure I could make it all the way home without stopping again for fuel, even though I was equally sure the DTE would be showing zero well before we got there. As expected, when I filled up, the tank only took 19.1 gallons of fuel.

Not a good plan, once or twice won't hurt anything, but consistent over filling can (and usually does) damage the evap system.

Just thought I’d chime in with support. Lots of past experiences with significant weather or accident delays (often both) in which I spent unplanned hours in the vehicle. Northern or Mountainous Canada are no place to get stranded with low fuel.

Every vehicle I’ve owned for the last 40 years got filled at 1/4 tank, no problems.

There's nothing wrong with filling up at a quarter tank, or whatever you prefer. But, I wait for the light to come on pretty much every tank, and haven't had problems. I also drive a lot, and don't like to stop more often than necessary.

In bad weather scenarios, or driving in remote areas, I prefer not to run it down as far.

Challenge accepted. Even after the "please refill" warning I believe the most I've ever filled was 19 gallons. I don't top off after the punp automatically clicks off.

I had a friend in college that would only put $2 worth of gas in his car (back when gas was $1.25/gal). His reasoning was poor college kid doesn't have enough money to fill the tank. So every time he wanted to drive somewhere he had to first stop at the gas station to put his $2 worth of gas in because he was always on empty.

Couldn't get it through his head that he was not saving any money. If anything he actually spent more because he was making unnecessary trips to the gas station.
