I’ve been waiting all week to ask this, what are your solutions to prevent oil from splashing out of the catch when draining the engine oil?
Mine comes out like a fire hose, and makes a mess. Maybe it’s the type of bucket I’m using.

    back to bone stock.
are you lifting the truck? if so, i like to get the oil catch pan up on blocks to minimize the oil free fall. especially with engined warmed oil. i use one of those storage catch pans, so the shallow initial pan is very splatter prone. i mitigate fine.

With skid plate removed, lets you review for other potential issues.

2x for Fumoto valve. You control how fast it comes out. Long nipple or short nipple for attaching a drain tube, or some just get no-nipple and control the speed of oil flow out. Still ... a large cardboard sheet is hard to dismiss as "useless" as a backup.

Also Motivx makes a good oil-filter-housing removal tool that allows pre-draining the filter housing: https://www.motivxtools.com

x3 for the fumoto valve. with the clip on hose attachment, i can easily wear a suit, and drain the oil into multiple gatoraid bottles without a problem.

before, i was dropping somewhere near a quart onto the ground. my bad luck, it always missed the pan, and the cardboard. the last time before switching to the fumoto, i scavenged an entire refrigerator box, covered the ground wheel-to-wheel, and the entire front half of the truck, from the front bumper to the back edge of the front doors. i aimed my drain pan to where the stream ought to shoot(3" behind the oil pan), and released the oil plug. the stream hit and deflected off the edge of the pan, splattered in front of the front bumper. right where my torso was, without cardboard... my swear jar had a healthy donation that day...

the fumoto has literally saved me $50-100 every oil change in cleanup and mathematical guesswork on stream pressure/angle/velocity.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
I hold the drain pan up close to the drain plug with one hand, then with the other hand I remove drain plug. Keep holding the drain pan up high close to the oil pan as the oil starts to drain into the drain pan. After about 10 seconds there is usually enough oil in the drain pan I can then start to lower the drain pan to the ground. Once on the ground there is enough oil in the drain pan that the remaining oil doesn't splash out. I don't get any oil on the floor with this method.

Another thing that can help is to not remove the oil fill cap until the above is done. Keeping the fill cap (and filter) in place will keep pressure in the system which will cause the draining to be at a slower rate.

You should look into getting a Fumoto oil drain valve. Attach a hose (which is optional), flick a lever, done. Don't even get your hands dirty.
