What is a great flat bed cover? Something durable but also easy to open.

Depends on your needs. If you haul frequently then a trifold cover will get in the way.

Checkout the forums section. There is a subforum for tonneau covers. Lomax tri-fold seems to be popular. There are vendors here that give a forum discount.

I have a Diamondback Switchback. It is a trifold, it folds very easily. I like that I can stand on it...we own a horse farm and I can stand on it to do things around the property and I can also travel with 400lbs of things strapped on top of it. I've had it for about 3 months - it is very handy.

i got an ebay roll up cover for $160. i can easily replace it 4 times over for a brand name model. it works great, does everything a huge cutoff of vinyl on a few aluminum bars is supposed to do.

why not? imo, all the name brand covers are all the same, just with a fancy branding tag sewn into one little corner to 'justify' an extra $400+ price tag.

i mean, that's quite literally what any roll up tonneau cover is. a slab of vinyl to cover the bed. unless of course one insists on getting a custom imported elephant penis, or maybe alligator skin...

i'm not a brand whore, i'm a functionality whore. that should be evident of all my knockoff milwaukee tools i posted in the milwaukee thread.

though you do have me thinking, what exactly does a $400+ tonneau cover do that my $160 cover doesn't? do you at least get an applebee's gift card? does it come with a remote? or is it AI controlled to know when to roll up?

Hit up @truckalter for a quote on the ones he carries. I got the Lomax trifold. Thought it was the best option for my needs. Spent three months “ kicking tires” and looking at all my choices.

Security. I’ll put $5000+ worth of tools under a hard cover with the tailgate locked. As long as no one knows it’s there, they will leave it alone. A cheap vinyl tonneau is easily sliced to see what’s under it.

I had the BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau cover on a previous truck and thought many times of putting one on my Tacoma. They are a little pricey now.

I agree... there is a pricepoint for everyone. We don't really sell the $160 and focus on discounting the better stuff. Amazon can have that market.

There are differences in most cheap import covers and the better American made brands. Vinyl thickness, tension adjustment, warranty support, etc are a few points. We sell Access covers to folks who have had them for 20 years without failure. But if you don't keep trucks long then longevity likely doesn't matter.

However, if you want to just cover the bed the Amazon cover will do that. There is nothing wrong with that. To each their own. I just didn't want to leave it unsaid that there are differences and they aren't all "the same".

Now with that. No offense meant at all. Please carry on!
