The advantage of NOT having that stuff is Toyota knowing more about you than they need to.

Meh. This isn't the thing that's going to stop me from buying a new vehicle anymore, it's simply one of many things.

The SOS button changes from red to green at startup. As long as it says "green" it probably will alert the "helping people" if needed and only after would they figure out I am not paying for it.

Toyota still knows everything without the subscription. You just need to pay to unlock the user-end features.

Yup..Everything and anything is subscription based..From physical assets to software/digital stuff, it seems like big brother don’t want you owning any of it nowadays. Living payment to payment for everything so they still get a cut of the check hah

the App isn't great anyways. I barely use the free version. ick. knowing I was gonna get it, didnt sway me even a tiny bit to buy the truck.

The free version is useless, the paid portion is great. Remote start from anywhere, can check if it's locked/lock from anywhere etc. However it didn't change my decision either, i didn't know about it until after I purchased the truck.

I have that version. I don’t use it that often.

Of course when you aren’t paying for something, YOU are the product, and they are selling your location data, but I’m sure everyone is selling it anyways

Not only that, but it is actually rather creepy the amount of data they are receiving. I wish there was a way to not have the streaming data, but it seems you can not have the app or pay for the service and the data will continue to feed Toyota everything you do. Harsh braking, cornering and acceleration?? really? I drive like an old man. It tells me all the time I'm harsh cornering and braking, almost never acceleration. It knows where I park, the exact route. Way too much going to big brother in my opinion! Is this going to factor in someday when there's a warranty claim?? I miss my 2017 for this reason.

I honestly don’t find this at all unreasonable. Being in tech for the last 22 years I understand the entire gamut of servers, networking, security, development, etc, etc that go into it. The nominal fee for me to remote start my vehicle from my lazy boy on a cold day so my seat heaters kick on and my truck is above freezing is absolutely worth it. Warm buns ftw!

Can't help myself...my wife's 2018 Tesla Model 3 just yesterday got a new update for added features and improvements at no cost.

Good links you've posted here. We don't pay additionally for the optional FSD feature, too damn much money and it doesn't interest us. Yes, I heard about the owners of older Model S Tesla's having their battery range reduced.
Something to do with extending the battery life of these older Teslas. Happy New Years!

I'm going to open a portable restroom business and install cell jammers on all of my restrooms. For a fee you can pay to get a signal.
