Deer hunting BS thread

Slick head tag filled for the year this morning but I'm bummed at the wide 8 I missed last night. 240 yard shot I miscalculated my drop and gave it too much, missed high. A doe had stepped out into a shooting cut, immediately she spooked. Ive been seeing lots of bears but I flipped safety off and out walked a nice wide 8. A Florida stud. I knew I didnt have time to grab my rangefinder. I guessed a distance and guessed wrong.

This morning was a different story, this doe was facing me at 75 and I hit her in the chest, exploded her heart and she still managed to go 40 yards. Happy as heck with a 110 lb Florida doe to fill the freezer.

Youngest son popped a doe this evening. he doesnt get to hunt much with kids and his job. he was super jacked.told him he was the game magnet and when he pulls the trigger shit hits the ground. asked for pics but didnt take any. said it was hanging beside mine in the walk-in. told him im getting mine in the morning but if his is bigger i might grab the wrong one. LMAO. man he was proud

 

Had one pop out inside 20 yards this evening and, after some awkward rearranging Im the shooting house, she slipped one right behind the shoulder. She went 30 yards and piled up; the grimace on her face is partly from straining to hold the head in frame... And more partly because it was sleeting, so the short time we spent looking for blood, loading it up, and driving back home (about half a mile) she was in a sour mood and ready to go home. I'm bout ready to start throwing Christmas presents in the fire, but I have 60 lbs of doe meat on ice to keep me busy I guess lol. She hit right where I have taught her, but the doe must have been turned a little, it came out 6-8" behind where it went in and just clipped a gut, stayed inside the floating ribs, so not too bad.

 

Congradulations. You taught her well. I get more joy watching the youngins get one than myself.

 

I missed one with my pistol that came out right behind it... The hammer fell and round didn't go off, it ran off and I was trying to see what happened with my cylinder open and she hopped back out and I shut the cylinder on the same round and it went off this time, although she was 15 yards farther down the field. She didn't move, so I shot again and her flag went up and she hopped off. Looked like two clean misses. Does this round look the like firing pin hit it on the brass at 3 o'clock? Have I got a bent firing pin lol?

 

Yes! for sure off center a good bit,shoot a cylinder and see if all are like that.if yea may be a firing pin issue or timing issue on the lock id say. if only on one cylinder could be an issue with the lock knotch on that cylinder. either way that sucks.

Yeah I'll check it out with some 38s this weekend. It did go off in the same cylinder the 2nd time (that was the only 158 gr JSP I had loaded, the 2nd shot was 158 gr sjhp) I did have an off centered (not that bad, still completely in the primer) light strike a year and a half ago or so, but that round went off the 2nd time too and i figured it was an ammo issue like a hard spot in the primer... Maybe not though. It is my EDC so I guess I needed to give it a little more attention, but luckily if a revolver doesn't go bang, just pull the trigger again

The rut is just starting in Natchez Mississippi where I hunt. I got a nice 8 point chasing a doe today.

I've never understood the rut timing south of me (I don't doubt it at all, I just dont understand it).
Natchez, MS is like 6.5 hours south of me, yet their rut is starting a full month and a half later than my area.....by that logic, why wouldn't the rut 6.5 hours north of me really start cranking up around Oct 1? (Which would be a month and a half prior to the rut in my area.

Again, I'm absolutely not doubting or questioning the later rut down south, I just dont get it.
And are the deer 3-4 hours south of me acting like

 

Thanks guys! I have my kids and wife with me this weekend at the camp. Doesn’t get much better. Hopefully my son will get one tomorrow. We have had a few big boys on camera over the past few months- mostly at night. But now’s the time that they come out and get careless.

 

It’s always starts around here after Christmas and we see chasing till February. Crazy y’all’s starts in November. What if they take some deer from here and transport them there, do they go in heat in November?
