Start out by saying I have an appointment this coming Saturday to take the truck in at the dealer and let them look at it to see if there is a problem, I couldn't find anything on here much about the issue I may be having and wanted to see if anyone else has and if I could keep people in the future updated about the issue.

'21 TRD OR 4x4 AT 48k miles, been filling it with premium gas.
Noticed under 2k RPM and at lower speeds (less than 30 MPH) it has what sounds like a slight knock/tick or tap. only when under load, can't replicate by idling it, under normal acceleration I can't hear it like merging on a highway and the temp of the truck doesn't change it whether its hot or cold. Anyone else have this issue? I'll be sure to report back after my trip

Possibly, I would assume I could hear the leak at idle and revving it around 2k rpm and not just in the cab?

Let me know what you find out. I have the exact same issue. Sounded like timing chain guide rattle to me.

Probably pinging/spark knock. Pretty sure most of these trucks do it to some extent if they’re closer to sea level

I've been told it's likely pinging/detonation. I plan on running premium gas to see if it goes away.

I would get a creeper out and just inspect everything you can on your own. I had a ticking, slapping, thumping noise only at certain speeds and it was driving me nuts. It didn't sound too serious, mechanically speaking, so I came here first for ideas to save time and money at the shop. After a week, I found it was my heat shield fully detached just wedged between my exhaust and my body slapping around down there.

Mine sorta makes a weird noise as this explained. I was told it's the PI/DI system cleaning it's self with idle and switching once under acceleration. Also has a slip feeling under normal driving. Was also told that's normal factory gearing so far I've put 71k miles on it and it's done both since day one new off the lot.

Went to the dealer today, did the 50k mile service while I was there and upon inspection they didn't find anything. Asked about what I may be hearing and they said it's just the noisy injection system and they didn't find anything that was wrong and they get a ton of people coming in that are first time tacoma owners hearing ticking/knocking

My bet is on spark knock.

Talks about it in the manual. It’s normal.
