Also to add to this spare tire conversation it is tied into the factory bed hooks and also has a lock cable to another factory hook. I think I would fly out and become a projectile before the tire did..

    Enough for now
I mean a mat under the whole drawer system and a hard tonneau on top.

what size is your spare? It may still fit underneath if you do the hoist relocation mod

It’s a 315/75/16. I could probably work something out down there but it would be pointless with my high clearance bumper.

i am tryna figure out the same!
gunna try and copy this company: (they do not advertise as waterproof however, made to be under a canopy) they use MDO board, and what looks like bedliner

i think keys are coating the hell out of it, double layered top & bottom, rubber seals at drawer faces, tight locking mechanism, overhangs

if you have carpenter friends ask them about best local wood choices for weather, price, weight, durability, treating/varnishing. weight is something i am concerned about in particular, so i am hesitant to go with pressure treated and hesitant to coat with heavy product.

You can seal the seams on the soft topper with a liquid fabric sealer. I did it with mine. They even sell it on their website. Do it on a warm day and apply liberally. There is no need to be sparing about it. Get it in their good on all the seams and give it a day to dry out. Also, get a UV blocker you can spray over the entire outside to keep it looking and feeling as new as possible. Clean it and let it dry first. Just take it off the truck and spray seal it there.
