I think the simple answer is that you get what you pay for. I didn’t want to spend what I did for my Sony XAV-9000ES but I’m an audiophile and bit the bullet.

With the Sony I get a high resolution (24-bit) DAC…it’s important if you want to listen to hi-res music.
I can isolate each speaker and set a unique EQ setting for it. I can play with crossover settings and slopes.
I have full control over subwoofer settings when I get one. I can input how far each speaker is from my head and it will time align the music for my position.

It also has Android Auto/CarPlay and is plug and play with all my steering wheels controls.

I would only buy from a brand with a mobile audio history. You just get more support and reliability. If I didn’t get the Sony I would have gotten a Pioneer, Alpine or Kenwood. You can’t go wrong with these brands.

Depends what you want. I like my joying. Its does a ton of stuff. But its firstly an android device and can be heavily modified and used for all kinds of stuff like viewing your OBD fusion, offroad maps, or whatever an app can do for you.

If you just want to rock out to butt rock and hate on Asians, then Kenwood, Alpine and Pioneer are your only choices.

I didn't say Joying was a bad choice...and Kenwood, Alpine and Pioneer are all Japanese brands...so I love Asians too!

    Butt Rock?

    LED's so far :-/
I had my Joying since March 2021, and so far it's been good but I only use it for Android Auto, nothing else.

My ONE gripe is out of nowhere, one day, Shift-to-P auto unlock stopped working and I have manually unlock my doors when I get out. In the Vehicle menu, there is NO Tacoma option where you find the make and model. The closest thing I have found was the Hilux 2015-2018...firmware update did not fix it.

Also If I go the Joying Vehicle settings, you can see the options for door locks etc but they do not work...some of the settings work like the lock beep volume but others do not do anything..So you will lose some of your vehicle settings that were in the OEM HU. Still better than the God awful pre 2020 HU.

Pretty annoying..We'll see how long this unit lasts but when it dies, I think I will just trade in at that point..

I have a joying in my 2022 Tacoma hooked up to a Rockford four channel amp and subwoofer with Rockford speakers and it sounds fantastic. The fit is factory, and the harness was pretty much plug and play once the wiring is all connected to your amp and such. The steering wheel control and rear factory camera was also retained. The EQ and the DSP options are excellent. The unit has a lot of features however, after one year about half the touchscreen became unresponsive. That said, after researching all the options and having to spend $700-$1200 for something decent, I opted to just buy another joying for $400.

Was there anything special for the oem rear camera? Some folks have tutorials for splicing harnesses but i wasn't sure if that's an older kit or something. Which unit/harnesses did you buy?

So far my new Joying (see my previous posts) has performed great. The rear camera uses your oem unit , at least if it’s 3rd Gen. Joying provides the correct plug and play harness, however you may need additional wiring to connect to amp and subwoofer something like this : RED WOLF Add AMP Amplifier Subwoofer Speaker Wiring T-Harness Radio Stereo Plug Connector Compatible with Toyota 2018-2022 Camry RAV4 Tacoma Corolla Non-JBL System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DTY8PMD

I have had one for 4 years now. If youre an android person then its a good match, puts out more power then stock so dint be suprised if u blow a stock speaker. I replaced all of mine.

When I had an issue setting up the steering controls, joying got back to me right away and it then worked perfectly.

Thanks! I have a 2nd gen and there's a few threads here with folks splicing to get it to work so I wonder if it's just a problem for my gen.

That's just a little hyperbole. It won't blow your speakers unless the HU amp clips. And if and when it clips...it actually means the HU ran out of power. The OEM speakers are actually amazing for how much they weigh. I hear a lot of people say, 'I can't believe how cheap they look' relative to the sound. But they're designed to have very low weight (CAFE standards?), be very efficient and make the most of the situation they're in. I think the biggest problem is the OEM HU more than the speakers. The OEM HU reduces the bass as the volume increase...to prevent clipping...to save your speakers. But they (OEM HU and speakers) were designed to work together. This is why most people go with an aftermarket HU and speakers.
