    Hi All,
Well, I replaced my climate control knobs and the new ones were really tight. Of course on the last one, it was super tight and I decided to take it back off to check. I had to pull really hard and when it came off, it also took the shaft and base with it :(
I have looked for things like how to dismantle the climate controller, etc. but haven't been able to find much if anything on it. It's on and works, but doesn't seem to be seated fully and I didn't hear anything break like clips. I haven't worked up the nerve to pull an adjacent one for fear of pulling that out too. Anyone come across this?
    Thanks and cheers!
    Scott

    Which spindle came out?

Disassembly isn't too bad. Just make sure you remember (or take pictures of) where everything goes....like little springs n things.

It's all just regular phillips screws. When you get to the ones on the back, there is one under the rotary contact...thinggggg. The white thing that the white plug goes into. If ya don't take that screw out, you will ALMOST break the piece trying to get it loose....ask me how I know :) .

If you have trouble, come back and I'll take mine out....again lol....and take it apart....again :) .....and take some pictures.

Thanks for the reply and info. I'll check that out. It's the fan distribution knob that I pulled out. I'll post some pics shortly.
    Cheers!

    Hmm,
my junk looks different than yours. here's what I'm currently staring at. Thanks all for the replies, i'm thinking a tab that's at the 'bottom' of the dash pic may just need to be 'wrapped' back around to retain it? Hard to tell, I was really surprised when it came out.

Ok, I misunderstood....by bad. I saw "fan" and completely ignored the "distribution" part. The pictures I had were for the fan speed knob.

I'm not sure how that knob retains in it's spot, but I'm willing to try to help you figure it out. I'll take mine out tonight when I get home and see what I can figure. Or if you get it lined out before that, that's great too...let me know. :)

Ha ha, me too! Now that I look at it, I'm not sure there's a 'tab' that I can bend down to keep that sucka in. hoo-boy, might have to use your quote and get out the industrial gorilla tape...

So I took it apart. I didn't take any pictures because there was nothing to see. I couldn't tell how that spindle is held into the "board".

My next step, if it was me, would be to check junkyards or people parting out a 12-15 and just get a whole new controller. There may be a way to retain that spindle other than how it was built.....but it would be questionable, at best.

Sorry I couldn't be more help

Well I fiddled around with it yesterday and I believe I broke off the other two 'tabs' that hold it in. I was able to bend down the upper ones, so it's held in, just not super tight. Yeah, I'll start looking at replacement control units, pretty expensive and makes this an even more expensive project. Oh well, my luck has been pretty good overall, so can't really complain too much.
Thanks for all the replies and help!
    Cheers,
    Scott

That sucks bro. With my truck (at almost 300K miles), and being the only one that drives it and the only one even IN it 98% of the time, if it was me I'd let it go at "not super tight" for as long as it would last, and just be careful with it. Yea a new controller is in the $500-600 range....that's why I'd probably go to a junkyard, but again....300K miles...with my luck, I'd spend $600 on a new controller and the engine would crap out the next day lol.

Either way, glad you have it working. Hope you get it fixed to whatever level suits you.

Agreed! Yes, it's held in an functioning. I will live with it, still have another 150K miles to match yours so it will be with me a while :)

It should be. These things seem to run forever if you do even mild maintenance on them. In 300k, aside from oil changes every 3-5k, I've changed the front wheel bearings once...front brakes twice (rotors once)...tires 2 or 3 times.....ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........u-joints on D/S once, but not center bearing...next time probably............diffs and T/C oil a couple times

    I think that's it.

Good luck with yours. BTW mine is the same truck, 15 sport, LB
