I had a sticky shifter and tried everything to fix it and nothing worked. The longer my truck sat the stiffer the shifter. Usually started sticking after day 3. I finally got an error message. Brought to dealer 3 times. The 3rd time they said we need to replicate the problem and let it sit for a few days. Day 4 they called me and said that the problem was in the transmission. I tried to tell them that from the beginning. They told me the transmission was not serviceable and it would need to be replaced. It only has 33k miles on it and still under warranty so it was done almost free. They charged me an extra $400 to remove rusty bolts. Tried to argue that and read the fine print, rust is not covered. Aren't these designed for off road lol. Spray some dang undercoating!!
So while my truck was in the shop (over 3 weeks had to order trans) they gave me a 2023 tacoma to drive. I took a zip tie and put it around the shifter, put it in reverse and hooked my digital fish scale to it and pulled it into drive. It takes on an average .5 to 1lb of preassure to shift it. My sticky shifter was over 3lbs! So in my opinion if you can't fix it bring it in and get it checked. Be prepared for them to give you a million reasons why it's not the transmission. Make them make it work right as if it were new!!
Last complaint lol. The dealer also tried to charge me 300 to check trans fluid. They said there was fluid around the drain and the seal was no good. I told them it's connected to the trans and is warrantee that they have to cover that then. Bla bla bla the need approval and we'll see. After explaining my logic again they agreed with me. Know your warrantee before going there. The dealer trues to stick it too you anyway they can. FYI, The service people at the front desk get salary plus commission!
