MX4 question

I know I have read something about this here and I have used search to try and find with no luck. I have just installed a Bakflip MX4 and I cannot get it to latch if the tailgate is already closed. I have it pushed as far forward as possible. Am I wrong that it should close without opening the tailgate? Thanks to @truckalter for a great price and fast shipping.

 

It’s been a few years since I had the MX4 on my Tacoma but yes, I could close and latch the cover with the tailgate already closed.

 

I had to make sure the cover is in alignment before the latches would click shut.

 

I actually just installed my MX4 on my 2015 today. There was a warning saying to close the tailgate first and then close the cover so you don't damage the cover, so yes you should be able to close it with the tailgate closed
