I’ve got a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. 260,000 miles on it. Lately I’ve been having some sort of shorting. My ac/heat works completely fine on the highest setting, but rarely works on any of the lower settings. My airbag light is on. While driving today, my drive light icon was light up on my dash. But the reverse R was also lit up.

Any suggestions I may be able to do on my own before taking it somewhere?

    Thank you!

    none yet
    welcome

the blower fan is most likely the resistor pack/plug problem

a code reader would help with the lights
might be a bad ground, might be some damaged wire from ware or roden chew
any electrical mods (ie extra lights)

Thanks for the quick reply! I did install new headlights and tail lights but it didn’t require any additional wiring. Just replaced the old units with new ones.

The ac problem is a common issue.

The airbag light may be a clock spring issue. Toyota had recall on the 2nd gen tacomas a few years back. I believe you can still look up your vin on the toyota owners website to see if you have existing recalls.

Just to add: If the D and R are lighted at the same time you have an issue with the Neutral Safety Switch down on the passenger side of the transmission.

Do you have any check engine codes. The Position Switch will usually show a P0705 code.

Either of the following conditions is met:
    (a) Any 2 or more of the following signals are ON simultaneously. (2-trip detection logic)
    • Park/neutral position switch input signal is ON
    • R input signal is ON
    • D input signal is ON
    • 2 input signal is ON

    (b) Any 2 or more of the following signals are ON simultaneously. (2-trip detection logic)
    • Park/neutral position switch input signal is ON
    • R input signal is ON
    • 3 input signal is ON
    • L input signal is ON

You can try the alignment and see if that helps, but they are known to have internal issues esp in the salt belt.
