2022 Sport....but I want black rims. New rims are out of the price range (especially after Christmas spending) Thought about sandblasting - but again, want to stay cheap.

Anybody have any experience with Vinyl Decal overlays on your rims? I've seen these ones:

I know, I know - you get what you pay for...

Any thoughts (other than stop being cheap)??

Plastidip is probably cheaper and easier.

40K truck with stickers on the rims? Plasti-Dip looks like exactly what it is.

Have you thought about painted FJ steelies?

    One thing…

It’s your truck. Stickers come off. If you hate your mod, it won’t break the bank to replace the OEM rims.

    Post pics when you decide!

with all due respect, if purchasing wheels would have a negative impact on your household, skip the alternative options and put your energy and finances to work elsewhere at least in the short term. you'll be glad you did. good luck.

Yea, avoid the stickers, you wont be happy with how they look or how long they last.

On a side note I know a guy that makes cabin air filters for his cars by cutting them out of large air filters meant for your house. He prob still does it.

I used to do that for my FJ, worked great and very budget friendly.

OP, don't let these guys talk you out of trying a new look on the cheap. Just go into this knowing it is not going to be a permanent solution.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
IMG_3590.jpg If you or anyone else is close to Buffalo, you can have these 16x8 with used one summer Mastercraft Stratus AP 245/75/16 mounted and balanced (no tpms) for $500. They are off the truck. Ive got my winter tires on. Frankly, I don’t like the black rims on my truck. Considering they are mounted and balanced, I thought maybe someone would like them before I take them apart for the tires to use on my new chrome rims

Nah. You’ll be fine @Fishersehorn31 . I’ve had mine 4 or 5 years ago and has undergone 2nd set of duratracs. Will be due for the 3rd set soon and still look great. Approximately 80t plus miles on it now. I rarely clean my truck and it shows. Btw, you’re not cheap. You’re just being smart with your finances. I bought mine last February 2019 (looked it up in my inbox when I bought mine )from @PikestacoSister . She used to sell it here . IMG_1140.jpg IMG_1141.jpg

Just paint the rims. Rotate the spare in and do one at a time off the truck. I did it on my old subaru crosstrek to get rid of the machine lip look. Just partially deflate the tire give it a light sand, degrease/clean, get index cards and wrap them around he outside of the rim. prime with a self etching primer and paint with a good wheel spray paint. Rinse and repeat.

    Don't listen to the haters.

I did this for two years before I decided I wanted wheels.

Plus side, they did well through every nasty carwash, high speed gravel, curb hopping ding I could throw at it.

Minus side, I had one inept gorilla of a tire technician absolutely slaughter them. It wasn't so bad, though, I just bought another set and replaced them.

    20200329_163218.jpg

And bonus, when it was time to sell those wheels, I simply peeled the decals and the chrome underneath was mint.

Eventually, I indulged in my childish urges and wasted money on some real wheels. :cookiemonster::cookiemonster::cookiemonster:
