I am dealing with the common problem of the rubber on my 2000 Tacoma steering wheel coming off the the ring. I searched the forum and went to a junkyard today to take the wheel off a 1996 4Runner. However, the cruise on my Taco is different. Mine is mounted to the steering column on the left side. Maybe that is after market?

Most pics I've seen for the 2000s are mounted on the right on the steering wheel.

In any case, I can't find a salvage steering wheel and really don't want to pay OEM prices ($350+).

    Any ideas?

I figured it was. Not sure why it has been so hard to find a used wheel in good condition. Maybe I'll just spring for OEM.

Check eBay. I found a good used one for my ‘99 on there.

I bought a Loncky steering wheel cover for another vehicle and I love it. Goes right on over the top of existing wheel. About a good long day sewing it on but very much worth it. You can, but its not necessary to even remove the steering wheel.

I put on Wheel Skins leather cover. Stitch it tight (takes 30 min) and you're done.

Few as possible, I really enjoy stock Tacoma's! Except small things, and maybe someday a supercharger.
is the rubber literally falling off? or does it just slide around a bit while your driving?
if it just slides around, and old school fix is to take a syringe and needle, fill with CA glue. I prefer a glue with some working time, instant can be finicky.
Then just stick the needle in a few spots along the inside of the wheel and give it a healthy dose of CA glue.
Keep some acetone nearby and some shop towels to clean up anything that's oozing out of the holes.
Let sit overnight and problem is solved!
