should I grease the locknut on my axel hub? (Bearing Pre-load)

    Hey There everyone,

I am replacing my front wheel bearing.

2000 Tacoma 4wd with manual lockers.

I am about to press the hub back into the bearing assembly.

after that I need to torque down the bearing lock not and stake it in place.

This lock nut sets bearing pre-load.

Normally I like to grease just about everything that I assemble to prevent corrosion. In this case, because the nut sets the preload for the bearing, I am worried that greasing will lead to a higher actual torque value and add too much load to the bearing.

    So what do you think:

    1. Grease threads and find a table to tell me how much to reduce the torque setting on my torque wrench to get the correct pre-load?

    2. Don't grease threads and assume it isn't going to corrode because it is in a little sealed world of its own inside the hub?

    thanks for any input!

ps factory service manual does not mention greasing threads.
