I have a 2001 Tacoma Xtracab 4x4 and am looking for a shop that can completely mechanically restore it (engine rebuild/replace, transmission, air conditioning, catalytic convertor, brakes, new tires, etc) in Connecticut. Ideally in the Danbury area or Fairfield county but open to anywhere in the state. Any recommendations?

Looking to completely rebuild the truck from the ground up? How much you looking to spend? Was the frame ever replaced or was it properly coated each season? What is the mileage on it now? Do you have any interest in doing some work or research yourself or want to just drop it off and give the shop your credit card?

I used EVB in Danbury years ago when I was living in that area. They are not Toyota specific, but I had a good experience with them. They were very helpful, and even let me order my own parts. Brought my 01 in for tie rods, and they recommended I do the rack as well- I ended up ordering the trail gear one back then, and they had no qualms holding the truck for a couple days while it came in. They came recommended to me from EFI Logics (Subaru shop that is very well known too).

Not sure if they are up for a full rebuild of a vehicle... and Im sure it would be $$$$ but they might be able to help.

Its been 8? years since I was there, so unfortunately I do not have a contact for you.

    Hi Xtriemesiege2
Looking to make the Tacoma !00% reliable mechanically, not for show/perfection. Engine has always been under powered, transmission making noise, AC non functional, currently will not pass emissions, Frame was replaced about 10y ago (warranty). Spare tire lost - recall for tire carrier not acted on yet. Would probably splurge and get new rims and tires. Odometer never accurate, reason unknown (at 60mph reads 70 mph). 200K+ miles. Looking to get a quote for the work, no time available for me to invest. Cab window latches inop and would like them to work.

Austin's Auto Works in New Milford did a lot with truck restoration, but the owner recently stepped away from the business so I'm not sure if the name changed. Worth looking into.

May be a deep rabbit hole and a Pandoras Box full of surprises if you start digging in to the truck.
One problem can lead to multiple problems. Depends how far you want to go and how much you want to spend.
Check out a place like this to see what they have been going for.
None for sale right now, but you can see past auctions.

I've heard they do good work, but their communication was lacking when trying to become a new customer over the last two months.

I realize this is a mostly dead thread, but so far Innovative Restorations in Wallingford has been responsive, professional, and reasonable.
