Any good way to repair the struts rather than just replacing them?

I sure they're gas charged, plus the seal should be replaced too.
    Better off replacing them.

    I used a 2x4 as a support before.

LOL, I just order another set today; they last about five years based on my Amazon purchase history. No, you can't open them, they're sealed and even if they're kinda, sorta working there's still pressure in them. Copy the number off the side of them, order a new pair, pop the old ones off, snap new ones on and toss the old ones in the trash. Ten minutes.

These are the ones for my CX series ($21.45/set of 2 struts); it'll vary by shell and window type though. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007MUY5G6?ie=UTF8

my snugtop back glass opens about 3/4 of the way with the struts and then i can push it open tthe rest of the way.

i got some cheap lifts off ama zon for $27/pair.

15" 40lb. ball end - i used the masterlift part number from the struts i have. but i havent put them on yet.
