    Hi folks,

My 22 Taco sport has rear sensors but no front. I have a hard time getting it into my garage because it's a tight fit. I used to have front sensors on my old RAV 4 and I loved them. Any advice?

I haven't seen a good mod for this, but hopefully someone has one. I back in using the camera instead.

I never thought of that. That would be a good idea if my garage was not attached to the house. I am afraid of spewing fumes and carbon monoxide into my house. Good idea tho and thank you for your reply!

Don't know of any. There maybe an aftermarket, but I haven't seen any. But you can get the one that mounts on you garage wall. There's a few different models. That or the old tennis ball hang from ceiling.

Add a front camera, it should allow you to get as close as you want.

You could add the sensors and ECU from a donor Taco, just don't tie into the CAN-BUS system.

The old tennis ball on a string will be the simplest solution. I've tried using my front camera into tight spaces and didn't find it useful due to the low resolution and awkward point of view.

I've also heard of using a ping pong ball instead of a tennis ball since it's not as soft and you'll hear when it taps the windshield.

I use a 2x4 laid across the floor and back into the garage. I let it bump the 2x4 then roll forward one inch. Then it’s right up behind the garage door without it hitting and I have the maximum space behind to load/unload.

I also used to park in a garage build in the 1920s and had to fold my mirrors in to fit. Only had about 1 foot on each side of the truck when inside the garage and had to crawl out of a barely opened door. So let’s say I have some skills in knowing my trucks dimensions.

You could get a range finder (Sig Sauer or other - Bass Pro/ Cabelas / gun shop) and keep it in your center console. Have someone spot you as you pull in then get the range from somewhere in the interior that is easy to consistently shoot a range from.

alternatively, just hang a rope with a tennis ball so you can see when your truck is where it needs to be. Or mark a spot on the wall that lines up with the driver's door so as soon as you are beside it, you stop.

    Easy. Don't overthink it.

I mounted a 1/2 EMT pipe, wrapped in foam insulation to a piece of 4x6. Front bumper hits the pipe and no scratches.

Unless your home’s door is open or you’re idling for extended periods of time I don’t think spewing fumes into the home is a major concern with backing in.. at least until you get a front camera or other solution.

So here is what I’ve been doing for about 15 years.

I park the truck in the garage where I want it.
I then figure out the distance from the front wall to the windshield.
I install a plastic drywall Molly, if there is no stud, & I hang a tennis ball.

The tennis ball gives a stop reference point. As soon as it contacts the windshield…….STOP

This can be done for <$5

Definitely going to go the electronic route. Did not want to use bump stops as I am sure I would trip on them eventually. I was not aware there were so many electronic options. Thanks everyone for being so helpful with such a boring topic!
