Install the tsb bulletin. Damper weights in rear cab mounts and foam cushions in the back of the c-pillars. It is much more quite and you’ll be able to live with it

13,000mi and no noise,,, one time going (mudding) and it won't shut up? Check your diff fluid. You could have gotten water in it.

sadly i haven't found a solid solution, apart from the tsb and some sound insulation. People said they've had the entire diff replaced just for it to keep making the same sound as the drive away from the dealer

If this happened after you went mudding then you need to look into that.

went to a local trail about a day after it rained , mud was pretty thick given itd been sitting but still loose and wet, however the deepest it got was about halfway up my wheel (stock truck), drove straight through it no problem spun around a little bit but that's about it. All abs systems and traction were off, also wasn't the first time i'd spun around in my truck, it was the first time it ever saw mud. I'd been off roading before but it was light rock crawling and mostly just up hill climbs and loose dirt. after that drove home and that's when i noticed the sound for the first time on the way back, originally i thought i might've been the caked up mud but after a power wash at home the sound persisted. Mind you a friend of mine had come along with me to go mudding that day and his is still completely silent even he's at 40k miles and pretty much did what i did. My truck had gotten pretty filthy prior to this. but yea i'm not sure what to make of it, and it's especially bad for me since the sound start right at 50 mph which is what i usually coast to get better mpg and i'm a HUGE nitpick when it comes to weird noises

i should also mention people have said this is just a regular pick up truck noise, which after driving my ram it might be true i guess because it makes a similar noise but it's nowhere near as annoying as my tacoma.

Having noise is normal, yes, many of them do make noise. But having a noise start after mudding is different.

you're right but what's weird is that a buddy of mine did the same route and everything the day i went mudding and he's at 40k and still completely silent, i even drove his truck for a little bit because i thought i was going insane

I’ve had 4 tacomas and driven many as well. My 23 OR is the first time I’ve heard this gear whine before. I’ll try the tsb and some extra sound deadening for the rear and see how it goes.

Have you extended your diff breather? From the factory it is sitting directly on the top of the diff and can take in water. Or muck.

i mean its not bad it very pronounced with music off though and can sometimes be heard when i have music on but that's mostly because i heard the sound in the first place, if i'd had never noticed i probably wouldn't be bothered by it
