    Hey All:

Long time lurker, first post here...

My '00 w/ 2.7L with 175kmi that I've owned 14 years has a clutch issue. When the clutch pedal is pressed and held (say at a stop light or waiting for someone to turn left in front of you) the clutch sometimes slowly engages even though the pedal is down. On this truck the clutch normally engages with the pedal pretty high. But with this issue it will engage close to the floor, or engage while on the floor if you wait long enough.

Happens a lot in reverse when backing slowly with clutch part way depressed. It's getting worse (i.e. happens more frequently, but still not always).

I also notice if I place gentle pressure on the pedal for a few seconds, the pedal will go to the floor. It's like it loses pressure but doesn't lose fluid. Once the pedal is released pressure will return on next press of the pedal.

Shop replaced the slave which did not help. Seems hydraulic in nature but it is not leaking any fluid. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The quality of parts installed makes a big difference as well

It pays to replace both the master and slave cylinders and the rubber hose.

The rubber hose very well could be your problem it swells under pressure why your pedal slowly goes down then seems to work normal again with time it just blows up like a balloon easier to it fails.

Most likely your clutch master cylinder is done.

Get under your dash first and look for leaks at the master where the clutch pedal attaches. If it's dry then crawl under and look at the slave cylinder. While looking with the engine off, have someone depress and hold the clutch pedal. If it slowly retracts then your master cylinder is bypassing internally.

Thanks folks -- good intel! Yes, master cyl was my only other thought. Nothing leaking inside outside or underneath. I'll check the hose too. Thanks for confirmation of my thinking.

Truck was in the shop today -- mechanic (who replaced slave thinking that was it) now thinks throw-out bearing. If anyone has thoughts on this I'm all ears. He doesn't think master.

    thanks--

... get all Toyota oem parts and tell him if it doesn't fix it then it's on the house.

I don't honestly see how it could be the throwout bearing here so i'm all ears myself.

Maybe if this was a ford where the slave and throwout bearing are one unit but he already changed the slave...

Maybe it's time for another mechanic
