    4 run, 2 don't
Or, spend the time and money for a crawl box.

All multimode does is allow a sort of "awd" when you press the 4WD button. Shifting the multimode lever actually puts it into 4WD.

And how much is that Crawl box?

Aint any other auto mfg got this option, might as well use it.

    It has AWD and 4WD
    Do you Understand the difference?
You sig and nonsense comment leads me to believe you do not.

What is "a Sort of" AWD
People like your ambiguous nonsense talk?
Its an E-Locker in an open center diff.

Its completely AWD, as much as a Subaru or Audi.
More than a Chevy with a front axle that kicks in when slip detected.

FJs came with a locking Torsen C.

Here is the thread since most of you cant read,
Or do anything other than bully people talking shit and waste money.

Diff lock on one stick, and the drive mode on the other.

    I'll humor you.

Crawl box costs more, yes. But it equally involves yanking the transmission and transfer case just the same.

Crawl box has much more versatility if you're going to wheel.

Multimode is a two year variant in the 4Runner, and as I stated was only AWD when you press the button until you shifted the lever to 4HL. You basically repeated what I already stated but in a manner as if what I said was wrong.

What you don't understand is that the AWD system adds no real benefit; it is not an 'e-locker' by any means because when it isn't in 4HL by means of the shift lever (and only the 4WD button pressed), it allows slipping.

The transfer case on a regular truck like a Tacoma, or a non-multimode 4Runner, works identical to the 4WD in a multimode transfer case when it is shifted to 4HL - not an e-locker.

Yeah, my profile details says stock, but don't assume someone doesn't know what they're talking about.

Never said you dont, there are definitely useless spammers here, though, and the mods seem to prefer them to genuine thoughtful discussion.
Turns this place into a dumpster fire.

I'm not a writer, or a therapist, if I hurt your feelings, then thats something you'll have to deal with.

Have you ever owned an AWD car?

Have you ever drove around on the concrete locked in 4WD?
Now add 2 Helical diffs. (Thanks ECGS)

    They are NOT the same

All I want to do is
take the motors out and manually control the center diff lock

Then I have 2-4, as normal

And I can uncouple the center diff, while applying power to front and rear axles, which would be phenomenal in the snow/ice sand or anything with marginal traction

    Just my 80 series

    20230305_092300.jpg

    And the GX470 I daily

    20230703_111957.jpg

The 4Runner I had wasn't multimode; I didn't care to get one with it

    20210806_152818.jpg

I guess I should retract my statement about AWD; it is nice in heavy rain since 4WD on a regular rig is limited to 55mph.

So really, I should've asked what your goal was as multimode could benefit you if you wanted that extra traction on road. Off road? I'll skip the extras.

Cause I'm a single dude waiting to die alone with nothing better to do.
It's my toy and I like building semi-unique shit with off the shelf parts.

IMO, You, and everyone, should seriously branch out into other mfg and platforms.

Maybe Titan swap a 2nd Gen Xterra, D44 Beam swap a Ranger,
    Cars can be fun, too

Edit: I realized a front dig with the parking brake would give the front a reverse rotation because how diffs work, assuming its conventional. Might have to try that in reverse. I'll let everyone know how it behaves on jacks when its done.

Why is it you assume everyone on Tacoma world has only ever owned 1 single Tacoma, or a series of Toyota trucks?

Or having 'stock' in your profile implies you've never owned anything worth owning.

I do miss my single turbo RX7 FD though :burp:

Also, my username should be a quick giveaway
