I have a 2017 Tacoma Off Road. So far the Toyota dealership has replaced 2 power steering pumps and sealed the timing belt cover 2 times under warranty. My extended warranty expired July/2023. I noticed leak around the main engine seal last month, took it to local transmission shop for repair. When they pulled the transmission, they found a plate that was cracked due to over tightening that caused the leak. They asked what repairs have been done and I told them motor pulled as recent as Dec 2022. They are sure that was when the plate was cracked then and said they would give me the plate and details to take to Toyota Dealership. I don’t trust my Dealership’s workmanship or honesty, I had it in for an oil change 4 months after the 2nd time the sealed the timing belt and they told me the coolant was dirty and needed flushed for $250. I explained to them they just replaced coolant 4 months ago when they pulled the engine …what recourse do I have to recoup the $1500 from Toyota that I owe the transmission shop?

Maybe try calling corporate. If the timing cover leaked again then they obviously aren’t sealing it correctly.

I picked up my Tacoma from the transmission shop. They saved the Crankshaft Retainer plate that was the actual cause of leak. One of the threaded bolt intakes was ruptured and then “someone” squirted silicone into it hoping it wouldn’t leak, well it did. Assuming they don’t stock the plate at the dealership, this was their “Flat Rate Tech’s” quick fix to get onto half assing the next warranty repair.
I called Toyota HQ, they told me to go to the dealership. This same dealership told me my coolant was dirty and needed flushed 4 months after the just had the motor pulled. Can’t wait!
