Hey everyone this is my first time posting on here so apologies if it comes out funky. Also thank you to everyone for the wealth of incredible information on here.

I’m having an issue with my taillights. They are functioning differently from each other. I’m including a picture, and I’m interested to hear if anyone has encountered this, and if anyone has any ideas of where to start looking for the problem.

I just installed this LP-X light above the license plate, from VLEDS. When I was testing it I saw that the drivers taillight is fully illuminated when in park while the passenger taillight is only half illuminated. From what I understand is that the passenger light is functioning correctly. I know VLEDs makes a conversion kit to make the taillights work the way my drivers taillight is working, but I haven’t installed that kit.

When I noticed the mix matched lights I reached out the VLEDs and they sent me a new harness for the LP-X, thinking that might be the issue. But the first thing I ended up doing was completely disconnecting the LP-X harness and reconnecting the factory taillight connections. The taillight is still working the same way as the picture.

I tried connecting the new harness just to be double sure and it made no difference. I even tried connecting the LP-X harness to the passenger side, and it did not change the way the taillight functions.

It doesn’t make sense to me that the new harness would cause this issue since it’s only tapping into that lower bulb. Unless by connecting this harness it’s sending something back to the computer which changed the way the light functions (I have no idea if this is even possible), but if this was the case you would think it would happen when connected to the passenger side, but it didn’t.

I have absolutely no clue what’s going on here. Let me know if anyone has encountered this!

Is it just a bad bulb? Have you ruled that out? Swap the bottom one from the driver’s side to the bottom spot on the passenger’s side and vice versa. May be that simple.

I absolutely did not try that! And yep I just swapped them and it’s the issue. I’m going to replace them both and see what it looks like. Thank you!

Sometimes it’s the simplest of things! The taillights will run top and bottom when on and, if I recall correctly, the top will flash when you have the turn signal on. I forget how they activate when the brake is applied. But I know what you mean, there is a mod that allows them to flash the full upper and lower when you have the turn signal applied. Good luck!

Yeah I had convinced myself that something had gone wrong in the wiring after seeing a video about the conversion. So I didn’t even think to try swapping the bulbs . I swapped them both and the lights are both working as they should! Thank you very much for the help!
