    :-D

The time of the year has come. Man, the engine warms up so much faster. I did leave a little gap for cool air though.

Yikes, I complain that the truck takes forever to heat up but with this "mod", today at -38, it took me 6 minutes of urban driving around 50kph to get up to temp... then I have a long hill to go down which makes me rinse and repeat when I get to the bottom

i did this last winter. covered the upper grille with a black plastic bag. i left the smaller opening above the 'chin' open.

i really didn't notice much of a difference, but my area doesn't generally drop below -5 anyways.

Recently I’ve been doing a lot of slow speed driving around town and this “mod” has helped a ton.

Have always done this when temps are below 20. I just use a piece of cardboard, easily removed if needed.

I used to do this on my T-100 when it was going to be below 20F. It makes a NICE difference.
Just don't cover the entire radiator.
That truck had a small gap in front of the radiator that was perfect for sliding a piece of cardboard into, it was so handy.

Yep, made a pretty significant difference. I didn’t expect for this “mod” to work so well to be honest.

We have got -35C today so I’m glad I did it.

Oh yeah, it makes a huge difference. I also had a '65 Nova 'back in the day' that was horrible when it got cold. I drove from Rolla, MO to Centerville, IA (4 hours) when I was in college, and had to scrape the inside of the windshield every 5 to 10 minutes so I could see! I felt like I was sitting in my damned deer stand. I put cardboard over half the radiator for the return trip and had heat! People just don't understand the struggle, lol.

Interesting. I noticed that with my truck. It seems like it takes forever to reach operating temperature on the gauge when it’s cold outside. The needle loves to hang out at the first “line” for what seems eternity lol. I think these engines are cold blooded, guess that’s a good thing for the summer when it’s 100 degrees out don’t have to worry about overheating . The mechanical fan is huge and draws a lot of air across the radiator

Out of all my vehicles, this truck takes the longest to get to operating temps. One of the first things I noticed.

It makes sense, look at the huge ass front grille. Great for those hot summer months but winter, not so much.

I’m so glad my truck fits in the garage. Barely…

Just takes like 4-5 point turn.
