It's an annual tradition for my wife and I to join with some friends and attend the Utah Auto Expo. I was surprised to see that every vehicle option we're currently shopping happened to be there (Colorado ZR2, '24 Ranger, '24 Tacoma, '24 Land Cruiser).

The Tacoma and Land Cruiser were both locked so we had to make due with inspecting it from the outside.

Not crazy about the exhaust routing, going to cook that rubber boot over time. Not sure why they put the fuel tank on the passenger side, had to get creative with the exhaust plumbing, looses 3 gallons of capacity. Would think keeping it on the drivers side like the 4Runner would have been better, exhaust has a straighter shot, wouldn’t loose fuel capacity.

Is it rusting already? Looks like some of it is definitely dirt, but some looks more like rust.

It's a pretty good bet the painted undercarriage items will show some oxidation over time, like most brands. My question is the frame. Have they really fixed that issue? Regardless of which brand/model we choose, I intended to coat the undercarriage with lanolin. Frozen bolts, studs, nuts, and camber bolts are no fun.

Yep, I’ve got rusty bits. Sits in the garage, no concerns.

Since they’re directly related to Gen4, and have been out now for a couple winters, I’d be interested in how well the early Tundra frames & undercarriages are holding up in the salt belt.

I hope it looked better in person. Those glossy fender flares turn me off.

I wasn't going to mention anything unless someone asked, but since you did....

It wasn't a good look. The glossy black flares were badly scratched as should be expected and it's just unbelievable Toyota put something so fragile on an off-road-oriented vehicle. And don't get me started on those seats. If you only intend to put two people in the cab, then no problem, but wow, there's about as much room in the back seat as my '87 Mazda RX-7.

My wife totally nixed it from the list but I'm going to see if she'll give the Tacoma another chance in a different flavor.

The Ranger and ZX2 on the other hand impressed our entire group.

also a zr2 is the price of an off road premium, at least here in Canada. The trd pro is going to be significantly more, usually pros run 13k more if 3rd gens are a predictor of the pricing difference.

Agreed, I like the trd off roads matt black fender flares more. It looks like the grill is glossy as well which I don't like.

It appears as though the trailhunter has matt black grill and fender flares, while pro has gloss. But I can't stand the bronze wheels/grill in the trailhunter.

Ugh, these shiny flares kill me. I really hope that is a paint option and not standard. I can get an extra $150 a month on my vehicle expense if i have a hybrid... so my long con was the trd pro... but i can't do it with those shiny flares

Fair point. All gloss black would look good, and they could be protected with clear film. I've done 2 black cars and hope I don't do another, but I do see the visual appeal.

LOL. Here's hoping the seats are optional...

Thanks for the link and it does confirm it can look amazing. One thing to nit-pick about execution...and this may be a prototype thing...notice how the paint texture changes on the fender flares? The steel panels are smooth and glossy, but the reflections on the flares are blurry and warped. I'm admittedly OCD about stuff like this, and it drives me crazy.

Those pics were phone pics a member taken at a state fair. I wouldn’t worry much until it’s purchase time.

The black Pro is likely going to be $65,000. It’d better be perfect for that kind of money.
