I am wondering if anyone out there has this brake controller and pulls a travel trailer. Was wondering for an approx 4300 lb TT, what setting you run in at on the dial (0-10) with your Tacoma. And, generally a review of it. Thanks.

I’ve got a liberty. My trailer is about 3500. The unit works great. No complaints. As far as setting goes, just get out on the road and adjust it so the the brake force with the trailer feels about the same as the truck by itself in normal conditions. That should get you in the ballpark. You shouldn’t feel the trailer pulling back on the truck or the truck being pushed by the trailer.

Thanks. I appreciate the info. At that weight, do you find that you keep it around the same number most of the time, like 4 or 5?

I can’t remember what number but once it’s set I generally don’t touch it again

I use one and it is set to 3 or 4. I’ve never gone over that pulling out Tab 320S Boondock.

I just installed mine. I don't have a trailer attached. When I press the button on the Redarc, the light turns blue and then fades away after about a second. Is this normal when a trailer is not attached?

Hardwired unit, #10 12v wires back to 7 pin connector, twisted and soldered connections.
Set to 3 to 4 for 2800lb Nucamp trailer (another 320s boondock!)
Set to 5 to 7 for 4200lb cargo trailer depending on load.

To test trailer ebrakes I jam a rod between seat and brake button and go back and listen/spin/volt-check ebrakes. Handy.

To calibrate I use button to test ebrakes for wheel lock, without truck brakes. Back setting off two numbers, and test at various speeds with truck brakes.

Morning condensation can make brakes grab badly and you need to use brakes a few times before resetting.

Cargo weight can change setting needed.
An infrared thermometer (point and shoot) is helpful during process of adjusting manual trailer brakes; snug without overheating.

Varied resistance in trailer wiring left vs right can create hard side pull. Had to rebuild one trailer with separate unspliced wiring left and right from 7pin box to correct this. Easily measured with voltmeter.
