I have my eye on a Setrab Series 9 Cooler with fan pack. There are less expensive options, but I hear good things about these oil coolers from people that run their off road trucks in the desert. A lot of racers use these as differential coolers on the track and if it can cool the diff fluid in a race vette it can sure as hell cool my ATF fluid.

I'm considering remote mounting it under the bed of my DCSB Sport AT, opposite the gas tank and incorporating a drain and a fill port to make transmission flushes easier. Whatever you do, if you go with a fan setup be sure you have a relay between your switch and the fan. Cooler fans can pull 30-40 amps which will nuke most switches. A simple single pole, single or dual throw relay rated for 40 amps will do the trick.

Please update this thread with what you end up going with.

I have 2021 Taco access cab 24k miles without the tow package and will be towing a 16’ Aluma trailer w/ a Kubota B2601 tractor (combined weight of 3500# max). With my FWC 1800# in the bed, not towing anything, my tran oil is 180-205F (hitting 235F on occasion). Everything is within OEM truck limits. I’m pretty sure towing 3500# I’m going to blow through 235F. I’d like to get a trans cooler but don’t want to void my warranty. Do I put in a cooler and save the tranny or trash the tranny hoping Toyota will honor the warranty? A 100k extended warranty will cost about same as trans cooler.

235F without towing seems high to me. Unloaded I see 180-ish. I just towed a 3,500lb trailer up a 7% grade for approx. 7 miles, and highest I saw was 219F. I was in S3 or S4 for all of it, and kept speeds at 65mph. RPMs were up there, but trans temp (TF1 on Scangauge) only saw 219F.

On flat highway, 70-75MPH, S4, with a headwind of 15-25MPH, the max I saw was 215F that day.

Felt like I was kicking my truck in the teeth, at first, but once I realized where the truck wanted to be, it just towed like a beast.

I have my mileages and fuel usage numbers for hand calcs, but haven't done them yet. Lie-o-meter said anywhere from 9+ MPG to 13+ MPG on any of my legs.

Compared to your temps I’m way high. I’m taking it in to the dealer with a print out of my temps from my OBDLink scanner data. Let them figure it out. I should have gotten the tow package.

Here are my mileage hand calcs:
    20221204_122459.jpg

1st leg was highway speeds into a headwind.

2nd leg was rural road (65 mph), relatively flat. Windfrom side/back.

3rd leg was over a steep hill, then a flat, then up 7% grade.

4th leg was up the Mogollon Rim. Mostly rural roads, 55-65 MPH.

5th leg was down off the rim, back fown the 7% grade.

6th leg was the highway stretch again. Had wind from front/side.

What were you towing? Those mpg’s look low if your not towing. I get 14mpg to 16mpg with a 1700# FWC in the bed.

Yeah, I was towing an 18' trailer with 2 quads, a quad trailer, 14x16 canvas tent, woodstove, and a lot of other camping crap. No very aerodynamic. I was surprised those numbers were not lower.

I usually get 18-20 combined, unloaded.
