I've been dodging deer left and right out here and I have decided that I need some more light for the dark country roads that I'm on. Those furry assholes out here are suicidal. I am not a fan of roof mounted light bars. I am thinking about either behind the grille or lower behind the bumper. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Where do you have yours mounted? Where did you place the switch? I was thinking about next to the clutch cancel switch on the left side of the dash.

Depending on what year you truck is, lower valence mount is excellent. Use a 30" bar that will be tuck behind the lower section

Ditch Lights work great for that, You can see them on the sides of the road before they are in front of you.

I didn't think about that. I could tuck a couple of cube lights in behind the valance and aim them out a little further than my headlights.

30" light bar fits perfectly behind the bumper. You just mount it right on top of the crash bar and it will sit in the vent perfectly. Riv-nuts make it easy to mount so you don't have to worry about getting nuts on the back.

that looks good, do you have any closer photos or photos of it taken from behind the bumper? Where in the cab did you mount your switch?

IMG_1788.jpg This is my light set up. I bought yellow covers for my ditch lights because supposedly you can get a ticket for having exposed lights here in California

Are the ditch lights flood or driving? Same for the light bar in the bumper?

I've since switched up the setup and that's the best picture I have. Thats a harbor freight light bar and you know what its pretty damn good. The outer edges angle out like ditch lights and it projects out pretty far and it's pretty bright and even beam pattern. For the switch I popped one of the dud panels on the left of the steering where the Diff lock button is and used a rocker switch.

On my 3rd gen I have a "stealth" mount Diode Dynamics bar. It's stupid bright!

I'd have preferred a roof mount because of the better angle for reduced shadows. However, I have an access cab and I'm not keen on drilling into the roof. I also prefer not to obviously dress up my truck if it's avoidable while getting the results I want.

I haven't had it long enough to give a full review, but it works quite nicely even in the less-than-ideal location. My only complaint is the flimsy brackets. There is noticeable vibration that causes a stroboscopic effect with the light hitting something in the near distance.

why a light bar and not pods

DD SS5 on a bumper, driving pattern
or Auxbeam for cheaper and less performance

few if any places make a glare shield for light bars
Bumper mounting doesn’t have that problem

The problem with roof mounts is the glare off the hood onto the windshield is crazy unless you have some crazy narrow beam light bar.

Yup. A good point, and was also part of my consideration.

I've got one tucked behind my bumper that works great and I think looks pretty decent. Busy watching the Packers game, so had to scrounge up this old photo to demonstrate.

Can angle these outwards slightly to expand your fog lights like I have
Warning: not an easy install unless you mark the location and remove the bumper

Mine is on the hood, but the PO put it there. I don’t like it but am too lazy to deal with the holes it will leave in the hood to relocate it. My switch is on dash left of steering wheel.
