Absolutely yes. It will go from the Neil Armstrong Operations & Checkout(O&C) facility when testing is complete to the Multi-Payload Processing Facility(MPPF) where it will be fueled. Then to the VAB for stacking. VAB isnt clean room but the other two are both clean to the nth degree.

 

And you do the fueling on the capsule?

Makes sense that the VAB and ML-2 are somewhat similar environments to the Bays and OLM/OLT(once you are past the actual construction of the vehicles) but the ordering of assembly/movement is different. It’s the fact that the various tanks and stages for Artemis are all built in clean rooms and assembled in the VAB as complete units but ships and boosters are stacked/welded in the Bays from open sections so the environments the insides the sealed sections are made in are vastly different. The Star factory should enable at least the critical upper portion of each ship which houses satellites or crew to be built in a much more controlled environment but it seems that all fuel tanks will continue to be welded where they are now. I’m curious as to whether the header tanks will remain in the nose of crewed ships or if the mass of the crewed section is sufficient to allow the headers to be shifted aft.

 

With the expansion (and near completion of Starfactory), and the addition of roll doors on the Highbay and both Megabays; the assembly of tanks and the payload sections will become much more contained.

Agreed, they just aren’t up to the same standards as where Artemis H2 and LOX tanks are manufactured. It’s different and likely to remain so. I presume cryo testing takes care of flushing any remaining contamination not removed after stacking/welding, exposure to the elements and/or occasional bird droppings. Every ring & dome section still sits in the ring yard prior to stacking. I see it as an innovation rather than a flaw.

I remember when SpaceX and then Blue origin release a video of their factories and progress. Spaces was a job shop, like many that I've worked at, their facilities were made for work. BO took the time to make custom embroidered vinyl covers to keep dust out of parts because they knew it'd be sitting for a long while.

Sometimes cleanliness is a good thing, but it can be taken too far.

Neat stuff. I wonder if 3D printing(or some other method) becomes a more readily available and less time consuming option than large format forging which seems to be slow, rare, and costly.
