My power slider would not open more than an inch and then was stuck open. The motor snapped off below the window. Toyota quoted me over $1,000 to replace. I did a search of forums but didn’t find much here (probably didn’t use the correct terms). Anyone else have trouble with the power sliding window?

I have read it only a few times over the years, it sounds like it's doable for the DIY'r.
I have been suggesting to folks; as soon as that sucker starts acting up, to leave the MF'r shut and never open it again. It's such a small pointless window, if it was sealed, it wouldn't be worth the cost and hassle for me to repair.

I've only opened that window 1x when I first bought the truck.

I have only seen one fail, so far. The customer didn't want to fix it, just get it shut. Had to remove the trim panels behind the rear seat to get to the motor and cables to close it.

Sometimes I'd like to have a power sliding window. But I just have my daughter, who sits in the back, open it for me.

I love that power window. When the weather is nice I can crack the sunroof and open the back window and have good airflow without too much buffeting. During the summer it helps evacuate the 120 degree cabin air from when it's been parked for a while.

I accessed it when I was installing sound deadener back there. I'm not sure why the dealer is quoting so much

That's the best part of it, no buffeting with the sunroof open.

Depends on what's broken, as to the cost of repair. Sounds like he has an issue with the cables. not the motor. The labor to replace them, I'd imagine, is close to 4 hours, plus parts. I know we are $165/hr labor. That alone is $660, plus parts, tax, shop fees.

You have a 2021 are you already out of warranty? If so that timing just sucks.

That window is important to me because it’s important to my dogs! I also like seeing the people behind me smile and wave to the protruding snouts.

OP I hope you get it fixed!

If you haven't already gotten this far, it's pretty easy to get to the rear window mechanism. Once the panels are removed it should be a pretty standard repair depending on which part has actually failed. Definitely something I'd try to do myself before getting the dealer involved. Any chance something could have just gotten lodged in the track itself?

I'm not promoting the brand or this exact product, but yes, they do.

Stationary Encapsulated Back Window Back Glass Compatible with Toyota Tacoma Pickup 2005-2022 Models https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X6I0M42

Edit: you could also order the OEM rear glass from a 2nd gen regular cab, as they never had sliders.

Thanks for all the information. Tacomaworld is the best! Total shitshow at the dealership today. The motor broke off its mounting. They charged me $200 in labor to tell me that, left the window stuck open (I gave it to them closed) and had the headrests in backwards. They lost a 20 year customer. I don’t think they care.

Thanks. That may be the ticket when the sliders fail. I am sure a local glass shop can secure factory, OEM, or aftermarket glass and install it too.

Sorry for your troubles, Klowie and hope you get it resolved. Like someone else said, I’ve only opened and closed mine one time while in the dealer parking lot.

If it's something you can do yourself, spend 4 hours on a saturday with an 18 pack and fix it up.

Sorry to hear that. The question is, “why did the motor break its mount locations”

If you replace the motor, get a regulator assembly as well, it’s like $50
