Hey Tacomaworld, new member and new Tacoma owner here so first let me thank y’all for for allowing into your world. I recently traded in my 2012 4Runner for a 2023 Tacoma limited 2wd and I’m on the fence about which direction I want to go as to my wheels. The truck came with 18” chrome wheels and Michelins tires that I absolutely hate. I don’t do much if any “off-roading” but I always like to run an all terrain tire and it is a truck. I had the TRD 17” wheels and Wildpeak 265/70R17s on my 4Runner and I was very happy with them. My question is this. Can anyone tell me from experience the pros and cons on which wheel size I should go with on my truck? Should I stay with the 18s and use a 265/65/18 or should I go with the 265/70/17s?

I would go with 17's greater selection of wheels and tires. Better price as well.

Defiantly get black wheels with A/T tires,,, like everyone else!
    haha, I kid.
I would look to 17"s as @na8rboy mentioned, the 16" look and work well for off road, but tires are expensive, limited, and many are only E range (heavy AF!). Also consider your mileage when going with a bigger, heaver, more rolling resistant tire. Risk n rewards.

17's are the way to go. More tire selections. I'm running the 4ROR wheels, with 275/70 17 Wildpeak AT3's load range C.

Shoulda made a swap at the dealer. Free and perfect fit.

For your use the Michelins are the way to go. You'll pay for the 'agressive look' of other tires in lost MPG and less tread life.

17's with 265/70/17 tires are the obvious answer. More/better tire choices. If you go for an AT/MT/Hybrid tire, pay close attention to the weight. Shoot for the lower C or D ratings and opt for less weight. I personally like the Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek. It's an aggressive tire, but offered in a very light, full tread depth C-load.

For wheel brands, bang for buck, you can't go wrong with SCS. They nailed the specs at 17x8.5 -10 (perfect amount of poke) and the styling is top notch. I personally am a big fan of the Ray10's (if you paint the fake beadlock bolts) or the Blaze10. The F5's are a great option if you're going for minimal weight.
