    Hey All,

Been dreaming forever of driving a Tacoma and I'm finally at a point in my life where I'm ready to commit. I've been looking hard for several weeks and pretty demoralized by used prices. Seems more or less impossible to find anything in the way of a good deal. Right now, I'm looking at a '06 TRD Sport double cab 4x4 longbed with 150k miles for 16 grand. It's about the best deal I've found and I'm having to ask myself if it's worth it. What do you think?

Buy brand new and finance for 35 grand-ish or 17 years used for 16?

I would guess that a lot of people on the market are asking themselves the same thing.

Yes 4WD Longbed and double cab. Seems pretty clean. Little surface rust on the undercarriage. No frame replacement. Couple small dents on the tailgate

    Welcome.
I bought this used and then slapped some new wheels on it. We just got it painted before Christmas.

$35k for a new one... Hmm, I shopped at the wrong store. It comes down to budget and priority. To your benefit though, used vehicle prices are dropping, so don't be afraid to use that to your advantage. Asking price and paying price don't have to be the same, or even close.

The 2006 has the legendary 4.0L V6. However, it was also made during the main years of frame rust issues so you may want to check into that.

The new Tacomas will come with a warranty. But, they're so new that there's lots of unknown issues bound to come up since they've not had enough data to refine things yet. But at least there's a warranty.

Whoever bought the 06 new paid around $30K for it +/- $2K. It would be worth about $12K to the original owner meaning he drove it for 17 years for about $18K. You're going to have almost as much invested in it as the original owner and you'll get to pay for the repairs. In another 17 years it won't be worth much.

I don't think you can buy new for $35K, but $40K is reasonable. 15 years from now I think it is a better deal to buy new today if you can afford it.

Toyota is famous for reliability with that being said , do you know who owned it or if they did regular maintenance? I would probably try to find a new left over 23 if that's possible. A man may be able to get a deal right now with the new 24 coming out. Again not sure on that but I would definitely check into a new 23 with warranty before I spent 16k on an 06. I wish you the best in whatever decision you make. Good luck!
