I am planning on doing a seat swap between my 1995 base Tacoma that has bucket seats and my 2002 base Tacoma that has a bench seat.

However, the 2002 Tacoma has two wires that go to the driver's left seat rail that I believe tells the air bag system how close the seat is to the steering wheel. The 1995 Tacoma does not have this feature/wires.

I read several threads on swapping seat and did not see this issue raised. I was thinking that I could swap the seats and rails as most post suggest except for the driver's seat left rail that I would be removed for both seats and leave this one rail with the vehicle it came from.

Is this the best way to address this difference?

What is involved is removing the rail from the seat?

    Thanks.

The only wires on first Gens are seat belt lights.

My 2002 Base Tacoma has the seat belt wires going to the seat belt reciever to tell when the seat belt is buckled. This is the back right corner of the drivers seat. There are also two wires on the left side of the driver's seat on the left side about 1/3 of the way back from the front of the seat. I didn't having paper and pen handy but I believe one of the wires was white with thin black solid line.

Hmmm, I have never read anything about a position sensor for the drivers airbag, my 98 wouldn’t have that as more things were added as far as electronics in 01. Perhaps there could be such a thing after that update, but it’s news to me.

My 99 only has the seat belt wires. Some 01-04 trucks are wired for power lumbar buckets. Check and get some photos of where those wires go. They might just got to nothing.

I started to remove the bench seat and discovered that the wire that I was concerned about was simply caught in the rail and nicely tucked in under the carpet but neither end was connected. It appears to be about 18 inches of random unconnected wire.
