The best sized camper is subjective. I wouldn't want to tow any more than the 174BH. It has two bunks a queen bed and a dinette that converts to a twin. Microwave big fridge two burner gas hob, and we do have a solar panel. We had to have a bathroom otherwise why not just tent camp. And I overstated weight in my previous post, I just looked my trailer is 3386 dry. Oh and we camp at campgrounds with water, electric and at least a dump station so we don't tow with water or waste. And my dcsb 4x4 sb auto rated at 6400 tow capacity is struggling up moderate hills in 5th doing 60.

This is definitely as much as I want to tow. Would be awful if I was trying to tow in big hills or mountains. West Alabama is not to hilly, and we try to keep it within a couple hours of home. Not ideal, but bigger truck won't fit in the garage and we don't go out every weekend.

Going to go look at a Jayco Hummingbird tomorrow. 2909 dry weight. Should be ok.

From my experience, I think you should be happy with a Jayco. I suggest you look into a Weight Distribution Hitch "EZ Hitch"? That takes some weight off your
tail end. And I believe it helps with anti-way if I remember correctly.

I bought my Casita used and cannot suggest them enough, depending on your needs. Perfect for a couple and we have a dog. The thing I like is they hold their value, seem well built, and are very aerodynamic. Mine came with the Anderson weight distribution hitch and high axle and it tows very easy with the taco.

Yes. And talk about truth in advertising. Forest River advertises it as steel trailered (duh) and aluminum framed with composite skin.

    Pictures and owners say otherwise.

    upload_2023-3-3_18-50-44.jpg

It's a plywood stick frame with composite skin.

Edit.. And I don't mean to say that as if that's a bad thing. Properly maintained (and the key word is maintained) a stick frame can last a long while. They just take more vigilance and work.

Picked up the 2019 Jayco Hummingbird 17mbs today. Installed my weight distribution hitch. Had no problem's towing, I felt it back there but was not bad. I towed all over the US before just a bigger setup. Plus use to drive a semi cross country. I live in Louisiana so not too many hills. Going to enjoy driving to Utah from Louisiana to visit family.

We have a NuCamp T@B400 that we have towed over 3k miles in the Northeast and a trip into the mountains of NC. It's a teardrop shape so a bit better than the "traditional" box but still has a good amount of resistance. It's about 3k unloaded and we travel dry and pretty light so MAYBE 3500 loaded. It's not a ¾ ton Diesel (which is what we had before) but it gets the job done. I find that 60-65mph in S4 with ECT is the sweet spot.

We pull this around each summer.
Hideout 19flb - 3800lbs dry, 5000 headed to the lake.

Truck tows it fine, better than the 2nd Gen in fact. Let it rev and watch the temps.

Airbags are cheap and easy to install. I would get the truck tuned to tow if you make it out to the Rockies!

Edit: wow, see you're in BC. Nice to hear it's towing well!
